Goodbye Portal, hello Ikon – Ikon for webmail and moreVideo transcript“After many years of reliable service, the Department’s Portal is being retired.”My Portal page displays text explaining that the Portal is retiring on 14 August 2020.“Everything you used to go to the Portal to find, is now available on Ikon. This includes links to all your applications and business systems.”Ikon home page focusses on a panel titled ‘Search this site’ and the acronym HRMIS is added. Ikon’s smart search feature displays possible page titles with HRMIS in them.“To get to Ikon, enter the URL into your web browser – ikon dot education dot WA dot EDU dot AU.”A browser is displayed and a user types the URL in the address field.“Make sure you bookmark this page, or better still, set it as your homepage. Just google how to do that in your preferred browser.”User navigates to a ‘bookmark this tab’ feature, identified by a star, located in the far right of the browser’s address field. The user then navigates to the search field of google and types ‘Set my homepage’. Google’s smart search feature displays possible page titles with ‘set bookmark as home page’ options.“One of the main reasons staff and students still go to the Portal is to access their webmail.” My Portal displays and then focusses on the link to webmail.“For staff you now need to get to your webmail from Ikon’s homepage. Simply select the ‘Mail’ icon. This opens your Outlook webmail and calendar.”Ikon home page displays and then focusses on the link to webmail, located in the top right corner of the page. User selects this link and the page redirects to a generic Outlook webmail example.“And, if you select the individual user icon, you can change your password and validation question.”Ikon home page displays and then focusses on the link identified by a silhouette of a person, located in the top right corner of the page. User chooses option labelled ‘change password’. “Importantly, all students must now access their email somewhere other than the Portal.”The My Portal page displays, with a red prohibited symbol featured across the front of it. “Your school should already have made alternative arrangements. If not, your school can place a link to student webmail on its own website, or give students the webmail URL.”A website of a school (with all ways of identifying the school blurred out) features a student area. When selected, their webmail access panel is shown, among other options, in the centre of the page.“In addition, all students can access their webmail on Connect – even if your school doesn’t use Connect.”Connect homepage displays where the link to webmail can be found by focussing on the mail icon located in the top right corner of the page.“If you need help to find your email, or if you need help setting your students up contact the ICT Customer Service Centre.”A graphic shows the contact information for the ICT Customer Service Centre. Those in the metropolitan area can call 9264 5555. If you’re in regional Western Australia, call 1800 012 828.“And finally if you’re new to Ikon, the best way to find information is to search using keywords and simple search terms. For example, search ‘EALD’ to find all the content that relates to English as an Additional Language and Dialect.”By adding EALD to the search panel, located in the top right corner of Ikon’s homepage (below the links to webmail), suggested titles of pages are shown. A user can select one of these titles, or press the enter button on their keyboard after the search term is added and be presented with a list of titles and summary descriptions of available pages on Ikon.“You can also use the ‘Find This Service’ tab to browse information which has been categorised into sub-topics.”By selecting the tab labelled ‘Find a service’, located in the top navigation of Ikon’s homepage, a user is directed to several boxes on a new page that have various topics. The user selects the topic ‘Teaching and Learning’ and is then shown sub topics to choose from. The user selects the sub-topic ‘English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD)’ and is then shown the titles of available page of information that they can select to read more about.“Make sure you visit Ikon regularly. Information is always being added and updated, and functionality improves and grows.”Home page of Ikon is displayed. ................
