Desert Community College District

Welcome to Spring 2018 -

Whether you're beginning or continuing your higher educational journey, we're glad you chose College of the Desert to help you attain your goals during this exciting time in our storied history.

We've come a long way since the main campus in Palm Desert sprouted out of farm land that produced grapes and dates 60 years ago.

43-500 Monterey Avenue Palm Desert, CA 92260

(760) 346-8041

We have since proudly graduated about 125,000 alumni and are now the fastest-growing community college in California.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Rebecca Broughton

Just in October, College of the Desert was named one of 150 U.S. community colleges eligible to compete for the prestigious Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation's signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America's community colleges.

Fred Jandt, Ph.D. Mary Jane Sanchez-Fulton, M.A.

In order to meet demand and provide the growing Coachella Valley population with greater access to a quality higher education, we renovated and added buildings to our Palm Desert Campus, and have created campuses in Desert Hot Springs, Indio and Mecca/Thermal over the past decade. We now provide courses to about 5,000 students at those three sites as well as at high schools in Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs, and Rancho Mirage.

We are also very proud of our new tuition-free plEDGE program. More than 1,000 students who graduated from local high schools in Spring 2017 were able to enter College of the Desert tuition-free in the Fall. In turn, they had to enter our EDGE (Engage, Develop, Grow and be Empowered) program, enroll full-time for the 2017-18 academic year, participate in 10 hours of community service, mentoring or internships, and maintain good academic standing.

Thanks to the support of our community and our Board of Trustees, I proudly announced in September that we will not only extend plEDGE another year for those current freshmen, but we will also offer plEDGE for two years to local high school students graduating in Spring 2018.

As our student population grows, so do our educational programs for associate degrees, basic skills, career education, transfer preparation, and noncredit and distance education. Across our campuses and sites, we now offer more than 1,250 excellent courses and 100-plus degrees and certificates.

Like I said, it's a very exciting time at College of the Desert, where YOU CAN succeed.

Again, we're glad you chose College of the Desert and we're proud to welcome you to the Roadrunner Family. Once a Roadrunner, always a Roadrunner.
