Company overview: Solstar Space Company is pioneering the technology to create a 'space wide web'. We enable 24/7 secure, economical, convenient, two-way, internet-based communications with every “thing” in space, and aim to be the Internet Service Provider (ISP) of choice in Earth Orbit and beyond. Solstar’s two-way data communications also enable earth-based customers 24/7 direct access to experiments, smallsats, machines, and colleagues located in space, via their smart phones, or any other internet connected device.

PROBLEM: Commercial spacecraft companies and the growing number of commercial CubeSat operators and space companies must purchase communications services from NASA or the USAF using government owned satellites and infrastructure. Using government satellites is very expensive, is not available upon demand, and does not provide secure protection for proprietary commercial data. It is also against International Telecommunications Union (ITU) regulations, for NASA to provide communications services to commercial entities using government owned satellites.

SOLUTION: Solstar solves these problems by offering an economical, convenient, and secure, commercial data communications service in compliance with ITU regulations. Solstar Space Company harnesses the power of the very best existing and emerging communication satellite network infrastructure to facilitate constant communication with space assets.

BUSINESS MODEL: Solstar makes money through high-margin subscription-based services delivered via Solstar Space Communicators (terminals and Internet routers attached to space assets). We are using the tried and proven business model that has been used by the MSS industry for decades. We will charge our customers for airtime. Solstar expects a 50% profit margin on sales of our satellite transceivers (which we call our Space Communicators) as the technology does not exist elsewhere in the market. As an aerospace companies, Solstar projects a large portion of our revenue will come through government contracts with NASA and the DOD, as well as international space agencies.

MARKET OPPORTUNITY: Solstar is the first commercial internet service provider in space. The space communications market is $3B and the commercial space sector is the fastest growing segment of the space industry. There are 13,000+ small satellites proposed for launch in the next decade. That is 6 times the total number of operational satellites in orbit right now. Each small satellite can incorporate Solstar’s modem in their design. The Space Industry, is valued at US $360 billion in 2018, is projected grow at a CAGR of 5.6%, to value US $558 billion by 2026.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE: Solstar Space Company harnesses the power of the very best existing infrastructure to facilitate constant communication with space assets. We have the distinction of facilitating the first commercial tweet in Space. In April 2018, Blue Origin, an aerospace manufacturer founded by Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos, launched the New Shephard rocket into space. During the rocket’s ascent, a tweet was sent onboard using Solstar’s WiFi equipment to @SolstarOfficial, marking the first commercial tweet posted from outer space. We repeated the tests again in July 2018 with another successful tweet from above the Kármán line and we provided an internet connection on the spacecraft from launch pad, to space, and back to Earth.. Solstar is the only solution for commercial internet and WiFi in space cleared by the Federal Communications Commission for this purpose..
