Tier Descriptions

Tiers are intended as a way to categorize and simplify the various investments available. You may use any and all tiers at any time.

Tier 1: Target Retirement Date Funds

Target Retirement Date funds are designed for investors who prefer more of a hands-off approach to investing. These funds are designed for investors expecting to retire around the year indicated in each fund's name. Sometimes referred to as "set it and forget it" funds, Target Retirement Date funds offer a blend of stocks, bonds, and short-term investments within a single fund, and have an asset allocation based on the number of years until each fund's target retirement date. The investment risk of each Target Retirement Date fund changes over time as its asset allocation changes. The funds are subject to the volatility of the financial markets, including that of equity and fixed income investments in the U.S. and abroad. Principal invested is not guaranteed at any time, including at or after the funds' target dates.

Tier 2: Core Funds (containing both index and actively managed mutual funds)

This tier consists of a range of both index mutual funds and actively managed mutual funds. Index funds seek to match the performance of a market benchmark at a low cost. Actively managed funds typically have higher fees than index funds and seek to outperform the market (though they may also underperform the market). You may want to consider these options if you are comfortable diversifying your investments on your own. And for help building your portfolio using the Tier 2 options, consider using Fidelity's online planning tools located at UW or contacting a Workplace Planning and Guidance Consultant at 1-800-642-7131.

These options provide the flexibility to build your own strategy to meet your needs and are for those who want to assume a greater involvement in the management of their investments.

Tier 3: Annuity Options

Certain TIAA-CREF annuities continue to be part of the UWRP and VIP fund lineup (see list on the front) and should be considered in the context of your total investment allocation. The following annuities will be closed effective November 1, 2012: CREF Bond Market, CREF Inflation-Linked Bond, CREF Equity Index, CREF Growth, and CREF Global Equities. Participants may not add new money to these annuities, but money invested in those funds will not be transferred to another investment unless the participant does it on his/her own. Any money invested in the closed annuities will continue to participate in the investment experience of the account. To determine whether annuities are a prudent choice in your own portfolio, call a Fidelity Workplace Planning and Guidance Consultant at 1-800-642-7131 or TIAACREF at 1-800-842-2252. Individual appointments with TIAA-CREF can be made by calling 1-800-8422252 if you have specific questions about their annuity offerings.

Tier 4: Self-Directed Brokerage

Fidelity BrokerageLink? is a self-directed brokerage account within the UWRP and/or VIP. BrokerageLink combines the convenience of your workplace savings plan with the additional flexibility of an individual brokerage account. It gives you expanded investment choices (mutual funds only) and the opportunity to more actively manage your retirement contributions. There is no fee to open a BrokerageLink account and no annual fee; however, additional fees apply to a brokerage account and you are not allowed to invest more than 95% of your plan balance in a BrokerageLink account. Please refer to the fact sheet and commission schedule to see a complete listing of brokerage fees or to sign up for this option. These documents can be obtained by calling Fidelity at 1-800-343-0860 or by visiting UW.

A self-directed brokerage account is not for everyone. If you are an investor who is willing to take on the potential for more risk, and you are prepared to assume the responsibility of more closely monitoring this portion of your portfolio, it could be appropriate for you. However, if you do not feel comfortable actively managing a portfolio of options beyond those offered through your plan's standard investment options, then a self-directed brokerage account may not be appropriate for you. Remember, it is always your responsibility to ensure that the options you select are consistent with your particular situation, including your goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance.

For more information on BrokerageLink and to obtain a self-directed BrokerageLink kit, call Fidelity Investments at 1-800-343-0860, Monday through Friday (excluding New York Stock Exchange holidays), between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. PT to speak with a customer service representative. The BrokerageLink kit will contain the necessary forms and information to help you set up your BrokerageLink account.
