Freak the Mighty Final Project

Choose two or more of the following activities. You must complete enough activities to add up to 45 points. All work should be based on the story Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. You will have some time to work in class, but will also need to work at home to complete this project on time. Be ready to share your projects with the class on Wednesday, March 8, 2016

1. Illustrate a scene from the book using markers, crayons, paint, colored pencils, collage, etc. (15 pts.)

2. Find song lyrics that you feel define one of the book’s characters. Copy the lyrics and write a paragraph describing why the lyrics fit that character. (15pts.)

3. Create your own dictionary with words and definitions in the same style as Kevin’s dictionary. (2 pt. per word, 30 pts. maximum)

4. Build an ornithopter. Write the steps you followed so someone else could make one. (15 pts.)

5. Write a poem about a character from the novel. (15 pts.)

6. Create a diorama of a scene from the novel (30 pts.)

7. Read the sequel Max the Mighty and write a one page summary. (30 pts)

8. Create a crossword puzzle of at least 15 words using clues, characters, and words from the story (15 pts.)

9. Create a poster advertising the book. (15pts.)

10. Find an actual medical diagnosis for Kevin. Write a one page report outlining how you found the diagnosis, and why you think it is correct. Include your sources (30 pts.)

11. Rewrite the ending of the novel, including dialogue and description. Which ending do you prefer? (30 pts.)

12. Research a character that interests you from the legend of King Arthur. Write a one page description of that character and why you find him or her interesting. Include your sources. (30 pts.)

13. Create a story mountain that includes the background, at least 8 conflicts, the climax, and resolution of Freak the Mighty. (30 pts.)

14. Write a one page description of a time you witnessed bullying toward someone who was different or a time you were bullied. Explain how you felt, how you reacted and how you might react in the future. (30 pts.)

15. Watch the interview with author Rodman Philbrick and write a one page summary of it. (30 pts.)



16. Create 4 different thinking maps centered on the book. (30 points)
