Don Antonio's Dispatch...

Happy Passiontide!! Passiontide is the fifth week of Lent through Holy Thursday, and specifically starts us meditating on Jesus' preparations for His Passion and Death. That is why we cover up the risen Christ for these last two weeks until the Easter Vigil. We also usually cover up statues and icons, so that we're focused primarily on the cross. I'm very happy that our Altar Society has graciously agreed to provide cover for our statues and icons (I may have mentioned it too closely to Passiontide, so it may be happening next year; either way I'm grateful!) to help us enter into this late time of Lent.

Monday, 19 March is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is one of the few times in Lent that we set aside our Lenten sadness and purple and put on white to celebrate this important person in the life of our Lord. I have a deep devotion to St. Joseph as his role in caring for Christ is similar to a priest. St. Joseph is also a good example of humility, as we hear very little about him in the Scriptures. We don't have to be famous, but if we care for Jesus, we can be a saint. St. Joseph is also the patron of a happy death, as he died surrounded by Jesus and the Blessed Mother. May we also, at the time of our passing, be surrounded by our Lord and our Lady.

Tuesday is our parish extended time of reconciliation. Confessions will be heard from 3-7 p.m., and we will have priests from Genesee County assisting me. Feel free to come whenever you want, during that time, to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance.

Next week, 25 March, begins Holy Week. Please pray for me, as this is already the busiest time in a priest's life, and with my additional diocesan responsibilities as a Master of Ceremonies for the Chrism Mass, it becomes even busier. Thank you!!

Once again we are in need of help to decorate the Community Room on Wednesday, March 28 after lunch (around 1:00 pm) for Gethsemane and also on Holy Saturday, March 31st at 9:00 am in the church to decorate for Easter. More hands mean less work. Please contact the church office if you would like to help. No experience needed! Please call the church office at (810) 235-8574 if you can help!

Help is needed for our "Easter Church Cleaning" on Holy Thursday, March 29th at 9:00 am until the job is done. Come and stay as long as you can. Bring a bucket and some cleaning cloths. The more hands we have the shorter the time for cleaning. Please help us to make YOUR Church look its best this

Easter Season.

ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC SCHOOL FAITH MOVING FORWARD Website:

Last week we held a prayer service for all people who have lost their lives due to school violence. The children, as they always do, performed beautifully. We also held a school lock down which involved local police authorities to assess how our school performs during these types of drill situations. Our school continues to do everything we can to ensure the safety of our children.

Also, last Friday was our lottery ticket jean day. Students were allowed to dress down and wear jeans for St. Patrick's Day if they donated a scratch-off lottery ticket which will be used during our auction in April. If you would like to donate any number of scratch off tickets (that you haven't scratched off) we would be happy to put them toward our massive lottery ticket tree which will be raffled off the night of the auction.

Finally, I hope everyone had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day! I know I did!! And yes, Father.... I was moderate.
