Hi AP Music Students!

I am delighted that you are enrolled in the AP Music Course for the 2016-17 school year. The AP Music Class is an intensive study of music theory that develops your understanding of advanced written and aural theory skills. It is an exciting class that will open your world as a musician. The skills that you learned in in Honors Music Theory are the stepping stones you will need to be successful in the AP class.

It is important that all students come to the class in the fall prepared with the content fundamental music skills that were covered in honors theory. Many of you only took one semester and you will need to study this summer to understand the skills that were covered during the second semester. This is your personal responsibility! The summer assignment is designed so that the first day of classeveryone will all be in the same place in terms of understanding basic music skills. This is not meant to be completed on the last week of summer vacation but rather something you visit throughout the summer so that the required skills become rock-solid .A few minutes a day devoted to practice, will ensure that you are prepared for the rigors of an AP Music Class and that you have developed a strong command of the basic music vocabulary and skills that are necessary for success in the class.

The summer assignment will be collected the first week of the school year.
