Summer Learning

“After one month without reinforcement, approximately 80% of recently learned material can be lost.” Summer learning helps children retain information, catch up on important skills, and feel more confident heading back to school in the fall. The fourth grade team would like to extend an invitation to you to support continued learning for your child throughout the summer. Here are just a few ideas to support your child.

Reading Ideas

• Reinforce learned before, during, and after strategies

by having book discussions with your child.

• Have your child visit the local library and take part in the Frederick County Public Library’s summer reading program. Go to their website for details. There are prizes to be had and that is always a great motivator!

Writing Ideas

Take some time to explore the National Park Service’s online Jr. Ranger Program. It’s fun. They can even earn a patch!
