Apalachicola National Forest -- Tallahassee love its trees and the city is virtually surrounded by forest. A quick 10 minute drive from downtown takes you into vast stretches of protected longleaf pine forest, wetlands, and palm groves. The Apalachicola National Forest accounts for much of this and is accessible at various points throughout the area.

Tallahassee Museum -- Located on the banks of Lake Bradford, visitors get a glimpse into the natural history of the Tallahassee area. Native habitat exhibits feature animals native to the region as well as numerous historic buildings that highlight the region's history. The Museum is also home to Tree to Tree Adventures which provides a bird's eye view of the Museum for adrenaline enthusiasts.

Plantation Country -- The Tallahassee region was home to a large number of plantations. A great number of them were winter retreats for northern industrialists and quail hunters which, surprisingly, resulted in the preservation of some of the country's oldest, surviving longleaf pine forests. The U.S. 319 corridor which connects Tallahassee to historic Thomasville, GA, is home to many of these old plantations, many of which o er tours. Pebble Hill Plantation is a stand-out among them.

Universities -- Tallahassee is home to Florida State Univesity, Florida A&M University, and Tallahassee Community College -- with combined enrollments of approximately 60,000 students. Both FSU and FAMU are within easy walking distance of the Summit hotel.
