The Etowah County Schools' Annual Report is our report to you, our stakeholders, concerning the wonderful happenings in your schools. There are many exciting things that occur each day in the Etowah County Schools. As our stakeholders you are encouraged to experience our exceptional schools and the multitude of progressive programs offered in Etowah County Schools. Our academic programs are nationally competitive, as Etowah County Schools offer a variety of opportunities such as Advanced Placement courses and innovative Career Technical Programs.

Our co-curricular programs are an outstanding complement to our stellar academics. Athletics and fine arts provide an array of opportunities for all students to experience education beyond the classroom. Our goal is to educate the entire student and ensure that every student is college and career ready.

As you review our annual report, be reminded that our first priority is always the students we serve. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason as I am here to assist you and our students.

Thank you for your continued support of the Etowah County Schools!

Sincerely, Alan Cosby, Ed.D. Superintendent

finearts

Bravo!

The ARTS are alive, well, and thriving in Etowah County Schools! Thanks to a partnership with the Alabama State Council on the Arts and their curriculum-based project grant, we offer strings instruction to elementary and middle school students. ECS is home to six award winning high school band programs, each with outstanding concert and marching bands. These bands are a source of pride for each community and for our school system. Choral music is important, too, as we offer exceptional opportunities for students to grow and to perform as vocalists. Dramatic and Visual arts are also important to us! We are home to numerous regional and state champions in both theatre and art competitions, and we proudly showcase the talents of our students in our yearly spring musical, starring students from across our system and directed by teachers in our schools.

Art, Band, Choir, Drama & Strings ? we are PROUD of our many talented students!

TECHNOLOGY

STATE-OF-THE-ART

In our continued effort to provide the best learning environment for our students, the Etowah County Schools Technology Department is focused on maintaining a robust fiber network that allows students and teachers to collaborate, investigate, create, and share. Sir Peter Blake said "New technology is common, new thinking is rare." With that in mind, our goal is to allow our students and teachers to share knowledge and information, communicate efficiently, build effective learning communities and create a culture of learning while using every tool available to them.

The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative has brought a new approach to our classrooms, one that has opened new doors to learning for students in Etowah County Schools. We strive to provide on-going training for our teachers through our popular Summer Professional Development Fair. These summer professional development sessions attract over 600 teachers to technology related initiatives. We are proud to partner with our neighboring school system in planning and hosting EdCamp Connect, now in its third year. Through the use of ACCESS Distance Learning Labs, iPads, Chromebooks, e-readers, laptops and traditional desktop computers, students in Etowah County Schools have access to unlimited resources and enjoy learning in an environment that is state-of-the-art.

Career and Technical Education

Where Futures Begin

Etowah County Schools Career and Technical Education offers students instruction, skills, and leadership training to help prepare them for careers or post-secondary training in career and technical fields. Students have the opportunity to enroll in career and technical classes both at their high schools and the Etowah County Career Technical Center (ECCTC). All Etowah County high school students may enroll in Agri-Science, Business Education, and Family and Consumer Science classes. These programs include Engineering Design Technology, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Automotive Service Technology, Early Childhood Education, Precision Machining Technology, Electronics/Robotics Technology, Welding Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Construction, and Health Science. Aviation Technology classes are also offered at the ECCTC through a partnership with Enterprise Community College.

The ECCTC is committed to ensuring that all Career Technical students have access to courses that provide postsecondary credit while in high school. All programs offered at the Etowah County Career Technical Center are business and industries certified and are fully aligned with the academic, post-secondary, and career

opportunities available in our county and state. The ECCTC is continually increasing the number of early post-secondary credit opportunities available to our students through local and state articulation agreements, dual enrollment, and early college opportunities with local community colleges.

Career and Technical Education in Etowah County offers many opportunities for students through the different Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO's). These organizations include, but are not limited to, the BEST Robotics, VEX Robotics, FCCLA, FFA, FBLA, HOSA, DECA and SkillsUSA. Numerous students across all CTSO's place annually in state and national competitions.
