Summer Reading for English I is suggested. 

Students who choose to read and complete an assignment will be given extra credit in their English I class.  These assignments may be given to the teacher at the end of the first week of the course to receive extra credit. Responses should be typed, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font.

• Students entering English I Honors or IBMYP should read two novels from the list and create a creative response. 

• Students entering English I Standard should read one text from the list and create a creative response.

Creative Response:

1. Write 3-4 diary entries from 3 characters in the novel.  Make sure that the diary entries show your understanding of the character and the plot.

2. Create a calendar with sketches of important events from the novel.  Be sure that your calendar shows the major events from the novel.

3. Create a visual aid that displays the theme of the novel

4. Create a children’s book of the novel you read.  The book should be created for a student in the third grade.
