The Course

Welcome to Honors Chemistry! This will be a rigorous and fun course where we will explore the world of matter and energy and how it affects our lives. I have a website I try to update daily at bisesi. and I encourage you to check it often. I will post what we did each day and any homework you may have. Due dates and tests will also be posted. Please join my Remind by texting @bisesi to 81010

Course Expectations

My classroom revolves around RESPECT. You are expected to respect your fellow classmates, all adults, the school, all materials in the classroom, and most of all yourself by doing all you can to be successful.

Each student is expected to come to class on time prepared to learn. This includes being mentally prepared as well as having all necessary supplies (notebook, paper, calculator, homework, and pencil). All work should be completed in pencil unless otherwise directed. Closed toe and heel shoes that cover the foot must be worn for each lab that involves glassware. You will not be permitted to leave the room to get shoes. Failure to wear proper shoes will result in a zero for the lab.

All work is to be completed on time. I know you lead a busy life but you have chosen to take this course and homework is part of it. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was missed and to make it up. Students who are absent will have one day for each day of an excused absence to turn in make-up work and receive credit.

Late work will be accepted until the last day of the unit for 70% of the maximum grade of that assignment.

Tests and quizzes are always announced in advance. Quizzes will be made up (if absent) THE DAY the student returns. Make-up tests will be given by appointment only and must be completed within 1 week. If you are absent the day before a test (also known as the review day) you are still required to take the test on the regularly scheduled test day.

Laboratory Procedures

Laboratory procedures and expectations are posted in the classroom as well as agreed upon by students through a written, signed contract. Students will not be able to participate in labs until they have turned in their signed contract and score an 80% or higher in the lab safety quiz.

Due to safety concerns, students who fail to follow these procedures will not be allowed to participate in laboratory activities and will be given alternate assignments. Students are responsible for the replacement or repair of damaged equipment. Closed toe and heel shoes that cover the foot must be worn for each lab. Failure to wear proper shoes will result in a penalty for the lab.

Homework

Students will be given homework throughout the semester. This could consist of worksheets or online activities with the textbook. If a student has circumstances that prevent them from being able to access the textbook online at home, please let Coach Bisesi know ASAP. When absent it is the responsibility of the student to figure out what they missed. Good resources are the class website and a classmate.

Academic Honor

Any assignment containing plagiarized work will receive zero points (that includes any work copied from another student or source.) That means the entire assignment will receive a zero. Both the giver and receiver of copied work will receive a zero. I encourage you to work together, not to copy.

Tutorials

I am available in my classroom before school most mornings to help you with any problems you are experiencing in class and for you to make up work. All you need to do is let me know the day before so I know to be in my room for you. If I am unavailable, you may always go to another chemistry teacher. Coach Gambrell and Mrs. Scroggs both teach honors chemistry and will know exactly what assignments you are working on.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me nikki.bisesi@.
