Poage, Nancy of Columbia died of a brain tumor Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at her home. She was 42. Her husband, Trent Poage, said her strong religious faith combined with a new experimental treatment helped her to live 16 months after she had been diagnosed. Doctors predicted that she would live only two. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Mrs. Poage underwent her first brain surgery on Sept. 11, 2001. 'We personally call that our 9/11,' Trent Poage said. Despite months of radiation and two more brain surgeries, he said, Mrs. Poage kept a positive attitude. 'Her heart, and her relationship, was set very squarely with God,' Trent Poage said. 'Her attitude was awesome.' He said Mrs. Poage believed there were two choices in life. 'You can choose to be bitter or you can choose to be better,' he said. 'She chose to be better.' Mrs. Poage made a list of the things she wanted to do before she died, including taking a cruise. Last January, she and her entire family went on a seven-day cruise in the Caribbean. Mrs. Poage began an experimental chemotherapy treatment in August. She was the first person worldwide to try the new treatment. She died just five hours before her 22nd wedding anniversary. Her husband said that was 'a wise decision on her part and the good Lord's part,' because he spent the day celebrating her life rather than mourning her death. 'She died as peacefully as she lived,' Trent Poage said. 'It was so obvious that there was such a spirit around her.' Mrs. Poage was a member of Woodcrest Chapel and active in Take Two Women's Ministries. The Rev. Rod Casey of Woodcrest said she was a model of someone who loved life and fought to keep it but at the same time accepted the inevitable. 'She was a fine woman, he said. 'I very much appreciated her spirit during those 16 months. I think that she exhibited not only how to live but how to die. I think her sense of hope and peace and desire for life did extend her life'. Mrs. Poage was born July 14, 1960, in Stafford, Kan., to Ellis Lee Titus and Patricia Jean Bond Titus. She married Trent Poage on Jan. 3, 1981, in Stafford. She was a member of the Parent Teachers Association, a Boy Scouts den mother and a partner in The Poage Group. She was a really good mother, 'said her brother, Rod Titus. She was really involved in the kids' activities. Services, conducted by the Rev. Rod Casey and the Rev. Pieter Van Waarde, will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Woodcrest Chapel, 2201 W. On Sept. 1, 2007, Nathan Clark Titus tragically died in a car accident at Ruth Lake in Trinity County at the age of 21. Nathan was born on Oct. 17, 1985, in Eureka, and resided in Ferndale. He is survived by his neverending, unconditional loving parents, Cliff and Marcie Titus of Ferndale; and his loving and loyal brothers and their families, Lucas and Jennie Titus and their son Trent of Loleta, Matthew and Angelica Titus of Thornton, Colo. and Nicholas Titus of Ferndale. Nate was a free spirit, a one of a kind. Loud, rambunctious, you knew he was around; likewise, you loved him for his every quality. Whether it was his warm smile, or his genuine laughter, he was sure to bring a little happiness to your day. Nate had an enormous heart that found the good in everyone. Even in the roughest times, he found the courage, pride, and strength to face the world with the sparkle of diamonds in his eyes. Nate lived life to the fullest, even as a child. It seems like yesterday we were pushing him around the back yard teaching him to ride a bike, and dressing up to go trick or treating. He was so playful, he rarely turned down a dare. Nate had so many friends from young to old. He valued his friendships. He would give anything to ensure happiness for his family and friends. Nate was employed by Mercer-Fraser, through the Laborers Union Local No. 139. He was a hard worker, and was proud of his work-ethic. He is also survived by his grandparents, Dayton and Gayle Titus of Ferndale, and Jack and Jonita Gosney of Eureka. Wednesday, November 18, 1964. p. 3.Orvin Titus of Janesville, Wis., who perpetuates the name of Jonathan Titus, the founder of Titusville, stopped at The Herald office yesterday to obtain information concerning the city's history. Mr. Titus, who was returning home from the National Grange Convention at Atlantic City, N. J., said he was particularly interested in Alanson Titus who he believed migrated from this area to Wisconsin the 1850s and settled in Kinosha Vounty. He said that Alanson Titus' son, Isaac, is his great grandfather who settled in Rock County where Janesville is located. He said that Alanson's branch of the Titus family came to the Titusville area from Delaware County in New York, and originally migrated to this country from England. Jonathan Titus came to Crawford County and founded Titusville from Frankstown, Blairs County, Pa., about 1796. When Mr. Titus planned the village he designed to name it Edinburg, in honor of the city from which his mother-in-law had emigrated to this country. However, for many years the place was known simply as "Titus's," to which the title "Titusville" succeeded. Jonathan Titus died Feb. 2, 1857, leaving five children: Susan, wife of Joseph L. Chase; Sarah, wife of Edward H. Chase; Lavinia, wife of Parker McDowell of Franklin; Olevia, wife of John Moore of Pittsburgh; and Maxwell. Orvin Titus told the Herald yesterday he was not certain of the relationship between Jonathan and Alanson, who left this area about the time that Jonathan died.________________________________________________________________Anderson Sunday Herald.
