We Have a New Home! - Meridian Physician Extranet

May 2016

Every day we are a step closer to becoming one . . . Hackensack Meridian Health Network. We are thrilled to see the momentum and the excitement building within our organizations. As you will recall, everyone who took the Organizational Health Survey was automatically entered into a raffle. The "prize" was really ours as we had the distinct honor and pleasure of enjoying lunch with the raffle winners at the Renaissance in Woodbridge. The enthusiasm and the anticipation was evident as we discussed our future together.

In this issue of ONE, we are sharing pictures from the lunch, announcing the Hackensack Meridian Health Network Board of Trustees and our network headquarters, and providing some FAQs based on the survey responses from both of our organizations.

Thank you for your continued support of this endeavor. We have a bright future ? the best of the best is undoubtedly getting better!

Robert C. Garrett President & CEO, Hackensack University Health Network

FAQs

Below are some of the questions that have been submitted by team members along with answers. Additional questions and answers will be featured in future issues of ONE.

What is our vision for Hackensack Meridian Health? We are two truly healthy and strong systems uniting to make an even better organization with an emphasis on providing greater access to tertiary services for more communities all while transforming the health care experience for consumers and clinicians. It has always been our goal to create one, integrated health care delivery system to better meet the needs of communities we serve and to enhance our ability to be innovative in the delivery of care in this increasingly challenging health care environment. Together, we will continue to enhance our charitable missions and create a more robust continuum of care to increase access to care to a broader geography. There is a committee in place that is working on the vision and mission for the new entity. Stay tuned to a future issue of ONE where we will share that new mission and vision.

How will this merger impact our community members? Our combined organization will serve a much broader geography, expanding access to services and developing a vast array of new non-hospital services to conveniently serve area communities. Patients all across the combined geography will gain improved access to top specialists from around the network.

In both systems, it has been a priority to extend primary care and wellness beyond the walls of the hospital and into the community. We will focus on clinical integration and aim to preserve continuity of care for an enhanced patient experience.

This merger is also about delivering value to the patients we serve, which means the highest quality care at the most appropriate cost. By combining and sharing resources, we will look for efficiencies and find ways to keep our costs reasonable.

How will the merger impact physicians and the care they provide? The merger will not impact physicians and the care they provide. Our physician community overwhelmingly supports the merger.

When does the merger officially close? We are moving along in the process. As you know, the New Jersey Attorney General deemed our application complete. The New Jersey Department of Health held two public hearings on May 4. At this point, we are waiting to receive final approval from the Attorney General's office and will close shortly thereafter. We will keep everyone posted.

What will change on Day 1 (e.g. day merger closes)? This will vary by team, but you will likely not experience big changes to your day-to-day work as part of Day 1.

When will we know roles in the new organizational structure? The new organizational structure is still being developed. We will keep you updated once it is finalized.

What will the size of the combined organization mean for me? We are excited to be expanding our footprint across New Jersey and combining the strengths of both organizations. We believe this positions us well to offer high-quality care in today's health care environment. The scale of Hackensack Meridian Health will allow us to invest in ways we have not been able to before, enabling us to shape the future of health care through innovation.

In the immediate future, we expect no significant impact on day-to-day activities for most of our team members. We welcome you to share your thoughts and questions through conversations with your manager.

What is being done with the Organizational Health Survey results? Many of you -- 82 percent of leaders and 35 percent of team members overall -- took part in our organizational health survey. Our partners at McKinsey will be sharing those results in the coming weeks. We will use your valuable feedback to help shape our combined future.

Do team members have any influence over the direction of the new organization? We are building an online insight community for all of you, our most trusted stakeholders. We want to give team members more unique opportunities to provide rapid, ongoing feedback over time, from which we will glean actionable insights and make meaningful decisions or course corrections.

As part of this influential electronic community, enrolled team members will receive e-mailed surveys and polls throughout the year asking for your opinions on everything from how well leader messages are being received to what your preferences are on certain ideas. This community is designed to give our organization

fast, confidential feedback from our professional, clinical and service teams. And, throughout the year, enrolled team members will be entered into drawings for prizes in appreciation for your participation.

Interested? Sign-up today by going to insightcommunity. Once you complete the initial sign-up, you will be contacted to complete a quick profile study which will acknowledge your acceptance onto the panel. Remember: Panel seats are limited and are spread out across the organization, so once the seats are filled at your site or within your division, the opportunity will close. Join today and help influence the future of Hackensack Meridian Health.

In addition to this newsletter and the team member insight panel, a general email inquiry process has been set up, which will be reviewed and responded to regularly. Team members can send questions and ideas to ShareYourThoughts@ or ShareYourThoughts@.
