Dear Mr. Emrani,

I am opposed to the Monterey County Public Works plan to tear down the eucalyptus trees at Carmel Valley and Boronda Roads.

For the past 130 years, Carmel Valley residents and visitors have been treated to great visual and aromatic pleasure from the historic row of trees along this intersection.

The proposal by your department which calls for removing these trees and widen the roads at this intersection seems to imply that the loss of a historic resource, Carmel Valley’s only National Register site, and the degradation of the existing visual character and quality of the site and its surroundings are not sufficiently significant to consider maintaining them. I strongly disagree.

In light of the Carmel Valley incorporation ballot potentially being presented to voters at an election this November, I believe residents would be best served by the draft EIR being tabled at this time. The voters need to have their own say in how they want the Valley to be governed.

Sincerely,

(Note) you must add your name, address and signature for this letter to be acceptable)
