1. WATER TEMPERATURE - Expected High Temperature in October would be < 25ºC

Record water temperature in degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. To convert between the two:

Time: _________ Approximate Water Depth (feet):______

Reading 1: _____ ºC _____ºF Reading 2: _____ ºC _____ºF Average: _____ ºC _____ ºF

Time: _________ Approximate Water Depth (feet):______

Reading 1: _____ ºC _____ºF Reading 2: _____ ºC _____ºF Average: _____ ºC _____ ºF

Reading 1: _____ ºC _____ºF Reading 2: _____ ºC _____ºF Average: _____ ºC _____ ºF

2. SALINITY - Expected Range: ~40 ppm in freshwater section up to 30,000 ppm (30 ppt) in harbor.

Measures the amount of salts in the river. The listed instruments measure salinity in ‘parts per million’ (ppm) in the fresher sections and ‘parts per thousand’ (ppt) in the saltier sections. Full ocean water is 35 ppt. In the freshwater ‘quantabs’ only measure chloride so we convert the readings later to compare the full river.

BE SURE TO MARK THE EQUIPMENT YOU ARE USING FOR THE TEST (units are listed by equipment):

Time: _________ Reading 1: _____ Reading 2: _____ Reading 3: ____ (UNITS!)

Time: _________ Reading 1: _____ Reading 2: _____ Reading 3: ____ ( UNITS!)

Time: _________ Reading 1: _____ Reading 2: _____ Reading 3: ____ ( UNITS!)

3. pH (POTENTIAL HYDROGEN) - Expected Range: Most fish prefer 6.5-8.5 (NO UNITS for pH).

Measured on a scale from 0-14 pH tells us how acidic or basic (alkaline) a solution is.
