You might also want to select ‘update fields before printing’ under File > Options > Display > Printing Options.IntroductionThis document describes the steps to install and configure Simply Personnel SQL v12.6 on Windows to work with a shared SQL server database on the IS infrastructure.It also describes how to restore the database on SQL Server.Database tier buildThe database file converted from Access to SQL server format by Simply Personnel will be restored on the Test and Live database servers:Test –> sql-db-kb1tLive -> sql-db-kb1The database user for the connection with Simply Personnel application is “personnel” and the password is on Infokeep.The procedure is a full restore on the SQL Server database from the bak file provided by Simply Personnel: PersUOE.bakApplication tier buildSimply Personnel installationThe installation of “Simply Personnel SQL v12.6” provided by Simply Personnel is installed and configured on a computer by following the instructions below:Note: Make sure that IIS 6.0 or above is installed on the computer before starting the installation of Simply Personnel.Run the installation file “Setup.exe” as Administrator.When the installer file has finished decompressing, you will see the first screen of the wizard. Click?Next?to continue.Select the?I accept the terms in the license agreement?option and click?Next?to continue.In the following screen you may enter your User Name and Organization details. However this information has no bearing on Simply Personnel whatsoever. Click?Next?to continue.You will now be prompted for an installation folder for the software. In most cases the default path is fine, however you can click the?Browse?button to chose a different location if you wish. Click?Next?to continue.In the following screen, select the?SQL Server?for the existing?Personnel?database: sql-db-kb1.is.ed.ac.ukThen select Server authentication and enter the following details:Login ID: personnelPassword: (See password on Infokeep). Click?Next?to continue.Select the?Custom?option in the following screen and click?Next?to continue.? In the following screen, click the?middle red X button?for?Simply Personnel?and chose the?This feature will be installed on local drive option. The red X will turn to an icon of a hard-drive to indicate that it is selected.?Do not pick any other options. This ensures only the Personnel Manager software is installed. Click?Next?to continue.This is the final screen of the setup wizard. Click?Install?to install the software.Once the installer wizard is finished, the software will be ready to use.ODBC ConfigurationOnce the Simply Personnel installation has finalised, and before running Simply Personnel for the first time, the ODBC connection needs to be configured. Setting up the ODBC connection to the SQL database on a 32bit Operating System:On the client PC, go to?Control Panel, then?Administrative Tools.Open?Data Sources (ODBC).A screen will open with several tabs along the top. Pick the tab labelled?System DSN.You will see a list of connections. Two of them will be called?Personnel?and?PersonnelDemo.Click the?Personnel?connection to select it, then click Remove. This is safe to do so – the installer has placed a connection to a blank Access database which we need to change into a SQL connection.Do not remove the PersonnelDemo connection – it will cause a problem later.Click?Add. A new window will open with a list of connection drivers.Scroll to find the?SQL Server?driver and select it.In the next screen, give the connection a Name of?Personnel?– the spelling must be exact or the software will not find it.In the Server drop-down box you should be able to find your SQL server instance(*), but if not just copy/paste or type the name into this box and press?Next. (*) (SQL Server instance: sql-db-kb1.is.ed.ac.uk)The following screen allows you to switch between either?Windows-based?or?SQL-based?authentication. Enter the database user and password mentioned on the application installation. User: personnel / Password: (see on Infokeep). Click?Next?again.In the following screen, check the top-most drop-down box says?Personnel.?If not, simply tick the box and select?Personnel?from the list.Carry on clicking?Next?– the rest of the options are fine as their defaults.? Setting up the ODBC connection to the SQL database on a 64bit Operating System:On the client PC, go to Windows Explorer / My Computer, then Navigate to the following folder:?C:\Windows\SysWOW64.Inside here, search for and open the following file:?odbcad32.exe.Follow the same instructions from Step 3 as above. ................
