Attached is a modified set of lessons. I have broken them out for what to do each day.All of the main lessons are on a site called Newsela. Your child can login to Newsela this way:Go to Login in:User name = first+last name (all lower case with no spaces)If your child has a hyphenated last name, I used both last names without the dashMy user name would be meglozadaPassword = passwordYou should see a list of 5 assignments. The goal is for your child to read one assignment each day, and then go to the “activity” tab and do the WRITE activity to the best of his/her ability. This means that every day your child will be asked to do a warm up, or opening activity. Then s/he will be asked to read and work one Newsela article each day. Please feel free to email me at any time with questions, or just to let me know how you are doing. I can accept work if you want feedback, but I can’t grade anything at this time.~Mrs. LozadaMonday March 30, 2020OPENING ACTIVITY:Watch CNN10 ( ) AND/ORRead this article and answer the 10 quiz questions at the end: MAIN LESSON: Learn about the country of Turkey Go to and read “Turkey, a Middle Eastern Country”When finished reading, your child should click on the “activity” link and then do the SOCIAL STUDIES WRITE prompt.CLOSING ACTIVITY:In his/her journal (can be a physical notebook or a word doc s/he can add on to each day) have your child write down the most interesting thing s/he learned today about TurkeyAND/ORDraw/sketch a picture about TurkeyAND/ORPrint out a map and color-in Turkey Tuesday March 31, 2020OPENING ACTIVITY:Watch CNN10 ( ) AND/ORWatch Videos about the Byzantine Empire: (5 minutes 21 seconds) (4 minutes 58 seconds) (4 minutes 17 seconds)MAIN LESSON: Learn about the Byzantine EmpireGo to and read “Byzantine Empire’s Middle Period”When finished reading, your child should click on the “activity” link and then do the quizCLOSING ACTIVITY:In his/her journal (can be a physical notebook or a word doc s/he can add on to each day) have your child write down the most interesting thing s/he learned today about the Byzantine EmpireAND/OR Draw/sketch a picture about the Byzantine EmpireAND/OR Look at a map of the Byzantine Empire: then print and fill in the blank map to show where the Byzantine Empire was Wednesday April 1, 2020OPENING ACTIVITY:Watch CNN10 ( ) AND/ORVirtually visit the Hagia Sofia: Tour: Video: LESSON: Learn more about the Byzantine Empire Go to and read “Once Europe’s most powerful state”When finished reading, your child should click on the “activity” link and then do the SOCIAL STUDIES WRITE prompt.CLOSING ACTIVITY:In his/her journal (can be a physical notebook or a word doc s/he can add on to each day) have your child write down the most interesting thing s/he learned today about the Byzantine EmpireAND/ORDraw/sketch a picture about something in the Byzantine EmpireThursday April 2, 2020OPENING ACTIVITY:Watch CNN10 ( ) AND/ORExamine and locate Byzantine Buildings: Look at these architectural wonders of the Byzantine Empire see if you can find them on Google Earth!
