A helpful guide to choosing the right devices for the Modern Classroom

We believe technology can inspire creativity in today's students. Our new generation of creators embrace technology as their first language, so the devices you choose will impact how well they are prepared for the jobs of the future.

APPS AND FULL PROGRAMS To give students the best possible experience, choose devices that run full versions of programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, and engaging education apps like Minecraft: Education Edition and Paint 3D. Consider Windows 10 devices that run full software apps for those learning design and technology.

SCREEN SIZE AND KEYBOARD A minimum of a 10" screen is good for online apps, reading and typing ? students benefit from larger screens for creative and technical work. A full keyboard is needed for typing assignments and taking online tests.

TOUCH AND DIGITAL PEN Younger students find touch input easy to use and it simplifies navigation on any device. A digital pen for note taking, sketching and writing maths equations is recommended and is especially useful for artists and for learning characterbased languages.

CAMERA With an in-built digital camera, students can capture their work and share images, video or even through live interaction over Skype. Choose devices with world-facing cameras for the best experience.

DUAL BAND WI-FI SUPPORT Dual-band WiFi (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) will give student devices the fastest network access.

DURABLE AND LIGHTWEIGHT Aim for under 1.6kg for students to carry around school. A solid-state drive (SSD) and protective

Microsoft Education case will endure the rough and tumble of the

school day.

PERFORMANCE AND STORAGE For laptops and 2-in-1s, look for a minimum of 4GB of RAM and an Intel? processor. 64GB of storage will suit most situations and a minimum of 128GB RAM where offline storage is important.

SAFETY Look for devices with Windows Hello for secure login, especially for younger students. Choose devices with settings that restrict certain websites and lock down the device when needed.

ALL DAY BATTERY LIFE Batteries should last a typical school day ? 6 hours is standard. Battery life can vary with usage so aim for a longer battery life, if possible.

USB PORT A full USB port may be needed to connect peripherals like a digital microscope, printer, musical keyboard and other learning equipment.
