Willkommen to your German Webquest. If you have never done a webquest before – that’s okay. This is my first time making one. Please let me know of any suggestions or improvements that I can do for the next one.

A. You are going on a trip throughout Germany. Your first stop is in the east; the capital of Berlin. Berlin is a Mecca of culture, art, music, theater, and so much more. Go to the link and get the following information.

• 1. Go to the city map (look for the link in the left sidebar). When the window opens read what the window tab at the top says. On your paper write down the word located before Berlin. (Stadtplan)

• 2. Go back to the main page. To the left of Attractions and Sightseeing there is a picture. What is this a picture of? If you don’t know click on the picture and scroll until you find it. (Brandenburger Tor)

• 3. If you wanted to experience an exclusive shopping experience in Mitte, what street would you be in? (Friedrichstrasse)

B. Now let’s travel north to the Baltic Sea. Here you will find some of the best spas and health resorts in Germany. The beaches have beautiful white sand and no waves. Not great if you like to surf but perfect for sailing or families with young children. Well what are you waiting for? Los geht’s!

• 1. Which German state borders on a majority of the Baltic Sea? Hint: It is 2 words.(Mecklenburg-Vorpommern)

• 3. Click on “Countryside”. Read the entire page. At the end, click on the different seasons. During which season would you like to visit here and why? (answers vary)

C. It is time to travel westward. There’s no wild west here though. Here is where you will experience the Rhine (Rhein) River. Climb aboard and let’s set sail.

• 1. When you travel down the Rhein, which places would interest you? (castles, vineyards, cities, etc.)

• 2. Which city competes with London for the financial capital of Europe? (Frankfurt)

• 3. Which city is Beethoven’s birthplace? (Bonn)

• 4. What are the rocks of Lorelei famous for? (sending sailors to watery grave)

• 5. Hesse was the setting for the tales of ______. (The brothers Grimm)

• 6. What is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Germany? (Marburg)

D. Now it’s time to move on to the southern part of Germany. Here is where most of my family is from. They live in Bayern (Bavaria). We are lovingly referred to as the rednecks of Germany. This is where Oktoberfest is celebrated. That’s right. Oktoberfest is not celebrated in all of Germany but rather only in Bayern and the biggest party is in München (Munich). Let’s check it out!

Wow! What a long trip. Hope you had a good time. It’s always nice to visit a spa town to relax and enjoy the natural spas. Just be careful! Make sure your parents read the brochures very carefully. In Europe a bathing suit is not usually required when visiting a spa![pic]
