Anthony B. (Tony) Ross, Sr. has been employed as a Financial Manager at Austin Energy, the City of Austin's municipally owned electric utility, for the past six years. In addition, Tony is an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Austin Community College, where he teaches Managerial Accounting and at Park University, teaching Advanced Accounting and Intermediate Accounting. Before taking on his current position at Austin Energy, he served as a Business Systems Analyst on the Customer Information System project team, which successfully converted Austin Energy's legacy Land Information System to an outsourced Customer Information System. Tony has four years of auditing experience, including nearly three years at the City of Austin's Office of the City Auditor, where he audited capital improvement programs, Brackenridge Hospital, the Utility Customer Service Office, the Austin Police Department, and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Prior to coming to the City of Austin, he served nearly three years at the Public Utility Commission of Texas as a Telecommunications Utility Analyst.

After being honorably discharged from the US Air Force, Tony worked nearly eleven years with high-tech companies [Motorola and Carroll Touch] in the Austin area before turning to the government sector. He was employed in various support positions, including quality assurance technician, product distribution analyst, marketing coordinator, marketing manager, program manager, and financial analyst.

Tony retired from the US Air Force Reserves in 1996, having visited some beautiful places like Florida, California, Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Japan and Italy. He specialized in production management while in the Reserves, scheduling maintenance activities on F-4 and F-16 fighter aircraft. Prior to serving in the Reserves, he repaired airborne communication/navigation systems for eight years in the Regular Air Force on various aircraft.

Tony earned both the Certified Public Accountant and the Certified Internal Auditor certifications while with the Office of the City Auditor (Austin). In 1984, he earned the Master of Business Administration [in Business Management] while working fulltime at Motorola. He completed BS in Management, and two Associate degrees [in Production Management and in Electronics] through night school studies during his career in the US Air Force. In 2000, he upgraded his MBA by earning the Graduate Certificate in Management Information Systems from St Edward's University.

Additionally, Tony has been active in professional organizations. He has been a member of the Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) since 1995, having served numerous times as CPA exam proctor and CPA swearing-in ceremony usher. He has served in various leadership roles in the Austin TSCPA chapter, including chapter vice-president, chapter member-at-large, former chair of the chapter’s oversight committee. Tony serves as Chair on the Austin Community College’s Accounting Advisory Board. On the state level, he serves as a TSCPA state director and on the Behavioral Enforcement Committee and the Qualifications Committee at the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. On the national level, he is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, having been recently appointed to the AICPA Virtual Grassroots Panel.

Besides the memberships mentioned above, Tony is an active member of both the National Association of Black Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors, participating in various local chapter activities.
