The events we present in this publication inspired the theme, "Bison Rising: Ascending Through the World of Business." This reflects the many attributes we have received that demonstrate our recognition as a world class business education center. We are proud of our recent ranking in the US News and World Report which places our MBA program at No. 78 this year. This rise in ranking can be attributed to the increasing reputation of our highquality program among MBA deans and directors, and corporate representatives, as well as Howard's high career placements of our all of our graduates. Also, our renowned supply chain management program continued to demonstrate excellence. The undergrad and MBA supply chain program was ranked #13 and #21, respectively, by Gartner. Princeton Review has ranked our MBA program the Greatest Opportunity for Minority Students for the 15th year in a row, and also list us as #3 for Most Competitive Students. Lastly, Bloomberg Businessweek ranks our School of Business as #63 for Best Business Schools. All of these accolades are an indication of the hard work and dedication of our faculty and students.

This year also marked some upgrades that are promoted in this year's Bottomline. Our alumnus, and Board of Visitor's member, Wendell Mackey (Class of 1985), donated $250,000 to support a new Bloomberg Finance Lab. We hosted an opening ceremony in March 2018. The Bloomberg Terminals will provide real-time and historical data, market moving news and analytics to assist our faculty and students with research related to informed investment decisions. Mr. Mackey's donation the School of Business supported the build out of a dedicated lab space and contracted to have 12 Terminals, with two Terminals earmarked for economics and computer science students.

"I am honored to present this gift to Howard University on behalf of myself and Channing Capital Management. I also want to thank my great business partners Rodney Herenton and Eric McKissack for their support along our journey together," said Mr. Mackey, Founder, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Investment Officer for Channing Capital Management, LLC in Chicago.

Our traditional Executive Lecture Series hosted the President of United Technologies Corporation Aerospace Systems and the three highest ranking African American C-suite executives from AT&T. We also successfully kicked off our Entrepreneurship Lecture Series this year. In this edition you will read about our tremendous presenters, Nicholas Perkins (EMBA Class of 2013), CEO of Perkins Management Services, Monique Greenwood, Founder of Akwaaba Bed and Breakfast Inns, and Don Peebles, Founder, Chairman and CEO of The Peebles Corporation. Each of these stars in the business world brought a unique perspective on starting and sustaining

successful enterprises, and shared with our students the requirements to launch new ventures.

It was a busy academic year for events. We continued our collaboration with AT Kearney with our Consultants lab. Throughout the spring semester, students worked on complex client solutions from companies such Google, Metlife, Ryder, and UnderArmour, among others. Also, we continued our Bison Hacks hackathon for the fourth year in a row to rave reviews by our students. Our Cybersecurity Education and Research Center hosted the inaugural HU Cyber Day that featured discussion and technical demonstrations on how CyberSecurity is impacting on American democracy, with special guest from NSA, CIA, and other intelligence agencies.

All reports are that Bison Rising is an appropriate description of the Howard University School of Business. This year has been marked with impactful achievements that will make our students, faculty, staff, alumni and stakeholders very proud. As always, we will continue to develop leaders in technology, innovation, and business in the global economy who will contribute greatly to all industries and organizations across the globe

We thank you all for the support that lets us all strive to make the School of Business a glowing light in the world.

Sincerely,

2018 HU

Accounting Career Awareness Program

The George S. Willie Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) is one of Howard University's high school summer enrichment programs. ACAP is a student program created by the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) who recognize the need for African Americans and other minorities in the accounting and finance professions. This weeklong residency program provides high school students with the opportunity to explore and learn about career opportunities in various business and accounting fields. The 2017 summer program was held from July 16-21, 2017. ACAP consisted of 39 (21 males, 18 females) high school sophomore and juniors from 13 states across the country. The program covered topics such as ethics, financial accounting, internal audit, tax, personal brand, time management, and business communication. These topics were presented by various companies and by various faculty members of the Department of Accounting.

The students visited the U.S. Department of Treasury where employees discussed various components of government work. During the visit, members of the DC NABA Chapter discussed their NABA and accounting experiences. Students were able to meet with Howard University alumni and other employees from Bert Smith & Co. In addition, they were able to have candid conversation with Jina Etienne, the former CEO of NABA.

The 2018 ACAP will be held July 15-20, 2018. Due to generous support from corporate partners, all program attendees will have their room and board taken care of, as well as other program registration charges. Transportation to and from the campus for the Summer Program is the responsibility of the applicant. Interested applicants can find more information and apply online at bschool. howard.edu. If you have any questions about any of these programs, please email HUSBSummerPrograms@gmail. com or call 202-806-1504.

In Spring of 2017, the Howard University School of Business Center for Accounting Education (CAE) sponsored the Inaugural George S. Willie Accounting Lecture Series in recognition of Mr. Willie's pivotal role in CAE's success. The lecture series exposed students to many influential leaders in the accounting profession who not only share their road to success, but also the pitfalls they've overcome along the way.

39TH FIRM Symposium

Since 1979, the Center for Insurance Education (CIE) has taken between 50 and 60 business students to a city in the United States at the end of the spring semester to expose them to the multifaceted insurance industry. The students represent the various majors within the School of Business, including insurance and actuarial science. During the week-long program, companies are able to showcase the finer qualities of their city and company. As a result of networking, many students are hired for internships during the week that have not previously secured positions. Another caveat of the FIRM Symposium is that students are presented with a real-world case study as it relates to the challenges in the insurance industry.

The Howard University CIE took students to the 39th Annual FIRM Symposium to Philadelphia, PA, May 14 ~ May 19, 2017 with 41 students and 1 faculty member. New York Life opened the symposium,

followed by Nationwide on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, students climbed abroad the Double Decker Big Bus and enjoyed the history and cultural attractions, while tasting an authentic Philly cheese steak.

The case competition presentations were held on Thursday afternoon in front of four judges; this year's theme was "Globalization and Outsourcing," and students were divided into five teams. The case challenge provided each team the chance to analyze and assess real-life business opportunities and to present viable solutions. The symposium was highlighted with the closing banquet on Thursday evening where Mr. Steven Sanders, board chairman of Beltraith Capital and CEO of Stoneridge Investment Partners, LLC, delivered an inspiring message to

our students. Mr. Sanders graduated from Howard University with an inaugural degree in insurance in 1981.

The CIE's 40th Annual FIRM Symposium will be held in Hartford, CT, May 13 ~ May 19, 2018. We expect to bring 52 students to the Insurance Capital. This symposium will provide an opportunity to expand students' knowledge of the insurance/financial services industry, expose students to the duties and responsibilities of various insurance functions and enhance their understanding of corporate culture and networking.

Gamma Iota Sigma International Insurance, Risk Management, & Actuarial Science Fraternity ? Tau Chapter

Gamma Iota Sigma, Tau Chapter in association with the Center for Insurance Education, has continued to promote the insurance industry within the Howard University community. One of our major events for the year was the 27th Annual Maximilian Luncheon Awards Ceremony. In addition to formally inducting new members into the GIS Tau Chapter family, this luncheon also served as an avenue to engage with new and existing sponsors of the Center for Insurance Education.

We have also continued our Industry Learning Sessions in partnership with the Center for Insurance Education. Within these sessions, sponsors are given the opportunity to interact with students on campus. In addition to the knowledge shared by various industry leaders, it was enlightening for our members to engage in the sessions focusing on the development of small chapters, particularly how to function and target new members in order to grow our chapter. As a relatively small chapter, one of our primary goals is to recruit individuals who demonstrate an eagerness to learn more about the industry. Our chapter received the Well-Rounded Chapter Distinction along with the Public Relation, Chapter Management and Membership Development awards.
