College Credit Plus Meetings

There will be a “split session” for the CC+ meetings this year. Both take place on Monday, February 22, 2016 in the Community Room.

Session One: 6:00-7:00 p.m.

This session is mandatory for those wishing to take CC+ classes at a local college (Wright State, Edison, etc.) next year.

• Both the student and a parent must attend this meeting to be informed of the program advantages/disadvantages as well as procedures for scheduling to be eligible

• Attendance is required for students/parents who are currently taking CC+ if they plan to participate again next year

• Students taking CC+ classes only at our high school are not required to attend this session

• If you have a conflict with the meeting date/time, you must see Mrs. Kaiser PRIOR to the meeting to discuss other options

Session Two: 7:00-7:30 p.m.

This session is OPTIONAL for those wishing to learn more about the CC+ classes offered at FRHS (English Composition, Adv. Biology & Genetics, Anatomy/Physiology, and Computer Apps). This is an informational meeting and attendance is not required to participate.

** It will be helpful for those trying to decide which option is best to attend both sessions**

A test score is required to become eligible for the college credit that FRHS offers for these courses.

FRHS students can take an AP Exam (sign up is in March) to try to earn college credits. If you are taking an AP course, I strongly encourage you to study hard, and take the test!! Be sure to ask your college admission counselor about earning these credits as well.

• Students with disabilities who plan to take an AP Exam in May can request accommodations by contacting Mrs. Kaiser know no later than February 5.

Financial Aid

FRHS Financial Aid Night was January 25. If you were unable to make it and would like the folder of information, see Mrs. Kaiser.

FAFSA: All seniors planning to attend college this fall should file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid):

1. Go online and obtain your FSA ID (see above)

2. Fill out the 2016-17 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet any time after January 1st (you will need tax info.). You can print a hard copy by going to and typing “fafsa on the web worksheet” in the search box.

3. File your FAFSA online at: prior to February 15. There is a NEW enhanced feature called “IRS Data Match” that will save you a lot of time after your taxes have been filed—it pre-populates many of the field on the FAFSA.

4. Paper FAFSA’s (for students without internet access) can be obtained by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

College:

DID YOU KNOW…

• Heidelberg University offers a TUITION FREE Master of Business (MBA) for students who complete their bachelor’s degree at Heidelberg (any major) in four years and earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. This could save you over $28.000!

• Colleges can rescind your admission in the summer of your senior year. This means that simply getting accepted now doesn’t guarantee that you can attend next fall. Colleges DO look at your final senior grades and can revoke your acceptance, so keep working hard!

1. Most FRHS students have HS credits that will transfer to college!

a. Students enrolled in English Composition (& Literature), Adv. Biology & Genetics, and Computer Apps need to request a transcript from Rhodes State (after they graduate) to take with them to college. All of these classes should transfer, but you need to advocate for yourself!

b. Articulated Credit: We currently have articulation agreements with some area colleges (WSU Lake, UNOH, for example) for FRHS courses in Accounting, PLTW, Ag, Tri-Star, etc. You need to ASK your college advisor if you can articulate any of your HS credits to college! This can SAVE you TIME and MONEY.

c. FRHS students can take an AP Exam (sign up is in March) to try to earn college credits. If you are taking an AP course, I strongly encourage you to study hard, and take the test!! Be sure to ask your college admission counselor about earning these credits as well.

2. FRHS students who are applying to college should indicate that they are a new student (incoming freshman) regardless of PSEO/CC+ credits earned. You are NOT considered a transfer student.
