Region: Columbia River
Reported By: Margo Blosser- President, Columbia River Region
Tom Pagh- National Director, Columbia River Region
Current Activity: Oregon- A task force has been formed to try and sort through the issues. The biggest debate at this point in time is the Certification or Licensure of GIS Professionals. A subcommittee has been formed to make recommendations regarding GIS Certification.
No perceived opposition from any parties regarding the Licensure of Photogrammetrist but currently the efforts of the task force are focused on the GIS question. The Oregon task force is not planning to try for any changes to state statues during the upcoming legislative session. It is felt that more time is need to get all professional groups on board with the Model Law and Licensure.

Region: Florida
Reported By: Scot Smith- National Director, Florida Region
Pam Nobles- Chair, Florida Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers
Current Activity: Florida currently licenses Professional Surveyors and Mappers. This has encompassed the activities of photogrammetry since 1994. Currently, for anyone to become licensed in the State of Florida they must have a bachelor's degree and four years of experience.
Region: North Atlantic
Reported By: David Bowen- National Director, North Atlantic Region
Current Activity: The North Atlantic Region has not taken on this issue with our general membership, except for much discussion among the Board members.
We have been contacted by the Central New York Region to share ideas; they have forwarded their initiatives for our info.
Would like to see National provide the Regions with more guidance and a "boilerplate" policy that can be shared with members, and probably more importantly, those not in our profession, but who review/make decisions on such initiatives (politicians). In other words, we need a lay approach to this issue in order to gain understanding and credibility.
Region: Potomac
Reported By: John Simmers- Member, Potomac Region Licensing Committee
Larry Pettinger- National Director, Potomac Region
Current Activity: Virginia- Potomac Region’s licensure committee has formulated a report and is working with PR members, ASPRS HQ, state surveyors, GIS professionals, and others, to establish consensus on definitions and issues. Virginia’s Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) is considering developing the licensing language themselves based on a one year evaluation period which would be throughout 2003 with subsequent legislation possible in the 2004 General Assembly session.
