God's Amazing Grace Part 2

(2 Corinthians 12:9-10 KJV)

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

here’s a song in which we so often sing “God’s Amazing Grace”. This song was written by a man named John Newton, who was slave trader, who one day decided to denounce slavery and seek other opportunities of employment. He was then employed by a white slave trader, who within his employment contract would allow John Newton to work, but John would have to work as a slave in the fields. One day John Newton father best friend visited this slave trader and notice John’s familiar face. He then transported John Newton to his native land and on the way back home by sea a storm arose. John Newton prayed that God would see them safely home. When they arrived home, John Newton started a Baptist church and every Sunday morning before he preached the word of God. He would sing this old familiar hymn “God Amazing Grace”.

In the text Paul is our writer. Paul is reflecting upon his life trials and tribulations.

Paul is in a period of suffering for Christ sake, and he asked of the Lord to remove the thorn in his flesh. The bible doesn’t speak of a physical thorn but it does speak of the spiritual thorn (the messengers of satan). He said in this same chapter, “Lord, I’ve asked you three times to remove this thorn and you only responded by saying, “My Grace Is Sufficient”.

In order to understand Paul's position you must first understand the different between Grace and Mercy. Scripture clearly presents Grace as something beyond mere "unmerited favor". Mercy is God's favor that holds back from us what we deserve. Grace is God's favor that gives us what we do not deserve.

Here’s something interesting:

There are four kinds of Grace I would like to share with you:

• Preparatory Grace

• Convicting Grace

• Saving Grace

• Dying Grace

Who is it that needs Grace? The sinners need Grace, saints need Grace, the Church need Grace, and The Preachers need Grace. I would like to share with you a few of these.
