How to Reinstate a Suspended Driver's License in New Jersey

Before you can reinstate your driver's license in New Jersey, you may have to complete a mandatory suspension period. However, the length of your suspension period will depend on the reason for your license being suspended.

What You Need Cash, check, money order, credit card or debit card to pay the $100 Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) reinstatement fee (The MVC does not accept Discover cards) Acceptable form of payment for court fines, if applicable Surcharge payment

Steps to Take 1. Complete your suspension period, if

required.

2. Pay the $100 reinstatement fee to the NJ MVC.

a.You can pay online, in person or by mailing a check or money order and the

bottom of your suspension notice to the NJMVC at the following address:

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission P.O. Box 140 Trenton, NJ 08650-0140

3. Pay fines to the court, if required.

a. Check with your local court for amount due and acceptable forms of payment.

4. Submit surcharge payment, if required.

5. Receive a Notice of Restoration in the mail.

6. If your license has is expired, complete a driver's license renewal to obtain a valid license.

Things to Keep in Mind

1. If your license was suspended for a physical or mental condition, you will need to contact The Medical Review Unit in order to apply for a reinstatement. You can do so by:

b.Faxing a request to (609) 292-7504.

Mailing a request to:

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission P.O. Box 173 Trenton, NJ 08666-0173

2. If your license was suspended due to failure to appear in court for a traffic citation, you must only:

Appear in court.

Receive the judge or jury's decision, or otherwise settle the legal matter to the satisfaction of the court.

Pay the reinstatement fee.
