Plotting Points and Functions with Graphing Calculator TI83 or TI84

Plotting Points.

Lets use for this exercise Example 4 from Sec 3.1 handout.

1. Set up the calculator:

[pic] [pic] [pic]

Buttons sequence:

[pic][pic][pic] if the Plot1 option Off is highlighted, move the cursor to On and hit [pic].

The points will be plotted with x-coordinates from L1 and y-coordinates from L2

2. Input the points:

[pic] [pic]

Buttons sequence:

[pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic][pic] To exit the screen hit [pic][pic]

3. Plot the points:

If you hit graph button [pic] the points will be plotted in a standard viewing rectangle x and y will both range from -10 to 10.

To select the best viewing rectangle for the points we need to use Zoom button.

[pic][pic]Zoom Stat

The result will be the viewing rectangle with the best view of the points.

Plotting Equations.

Remember that we had an equation[pic], five solutions of which we plotted as the points in the same system of coordinates. Lets plot the graph of the equation [pic].

1. Input the equation:

[pic][pic][pic][pic][pic]

2. Now plot it:

[pic]

The graph of our equation is a line passing through all the points – solutions of the equation.
