Math Analysis/TrigonometryJefferson City High SchoolKelly Hart, InstructorI.Course Description:Currently, this course emphasizes Trig using the Unit Circle approach, graphing trig functions and their transformations, and solving triangles. Other areas of emphasis include topics such as rational equations and inequalities, conic sections, and solving polynomials. This course is designed for college bound students and is applicable to many areas including math, engineering, construction, and science. Prerequisite: “C” or higher in Algebra II. II. Course Curricular Objectives:The student will interpret algebraic functions and graphs. The student will demonstrate knowledge of unit circle trigonometry. The student will graph the six basic trigonometric functions. The student will apply trigonometric identities. The student will solve trigonometric equations and inequalities. The student will solve right and oblique triangles. The student will graph conic sections. The student will analyze polynomial equation of degree 3 or higher.III. Course Materials:Textbook: Sullivan, Michael and Michael Sullivan, III. Precalculus: Graphing and Data Analysis (Second Edition). Upper Saddle River, New Jersey: Prentice Hall.Students should provide and bring with them daily:Notebook/binder to organize all class notesTextbookPaperPencil with eraserGraphing calculator (Preferred: TI-83/84 Family)IV. Course Policies:All district and/or school policies are enforced (tardies/absences/behavior…).Absences: Daily attendance is highly recommended. If you have an excused absence, you are expected to get all materials, notes, and assignments you may have missed. Please check my website for notes/assignments. (Directions are on the next page.) The deadline for ALL assignments will be the day of the test. If you have an excused absence the day of a test, you have one week from that date to make it up.Homework: Almost all homework assignments will be recorded based on a 100-point scale. One late paper per 9-weeks is allowed for full credit. NO papers will be accepted after the test is taken.Tests: You may retake one Unit Test per term under the following conditions: All assignments have been completed and turned in, and a review has been scheduled with the teacher before the retake. Once those conditions are met, then the entire test will be retaken and the SECOND score will be recorded. Memorization/definition portions of the test will NOT be re-taken.V. Personal Statement:I have been teaching at Jefferson City High School since 1998. I have high expectations for all my students as this course does require time outside the classroom including homework and memorization. I am available before and after school for extra help, however, I ask that students check with me to avoid any scheduling conflicts.VIII.
