Job Descriptions

Position: CEO (one person elected)

Duties: The CEO is the chief executive officer who oversees and supervises all company employees. He/she has the authority to sign checks, stock certificates, and other official company documents. He/she reports to the Instructor.

1. The CEO is responsible to the Board of Directors (Instructor).

2. Serve as an intermediary between the company employees and the Board or Directors.

3. Directly responsible for the supervision and coordination of the President(s).

4. Meet weekly with the President(s), Vice President of Production and the Board of Directors. If necessary, others may need to be invited to these meetings.

5. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with: President(s), Vice President of Production; Vice President of Personnel; Vice President of Finance; Vice President of Marketing; and Vice President of Design and Marketing Options.

6. Plan and develop a network analysis covering the forming, planning, production, marketing, and liquidation of the company. This will have dates. Input should be obtained from appropriate personnel.

7. Set-up objectives, policies, and procedures for the company.

8. Lead class discussions relating to the production portion of the class.

9. Provide leadership, aid in solving problems, and maintain a good quality organization.

10. Authorizing the purchase of supplies and materials.

11. Signing and maintaining all company documents.

12. Making management decisions for the company which are instrumental to its success.

13. Continually monitor the production progress of the company product.

14. Submit a weekly written report to the Board of Directors summarizing the reports submitted by the President(s).

15. Submit a final written report to the Board of Directors covering the materials contained in #2, #3, #4, #5, #6 and #7.

Position: PRESIDENT (one person elected for each lab)

Duties: The President oversees and supervises all company employees within their lab. He/she has the authority to sign checks, stock certificates, and other official company documents. He/she reports to the CEO and Instructor.

1. The President is responsible to the CEO and Board of Directors (Instructor).

2. Serve as an intermediary between the company employees and the CEO and Board or Directors.

3. Directly responsible for the supervision and coordination of: Vice President of Production; Vice President of Personnel; Vice President of Finance; Vice President of Marketing; and Vice President of Design and Marketing Options.

4. Meet weekly with the Vice President of Production and the Board of Directors. If necessary, others may need to be invited to these meetings.

5. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with: Vice President of Production; Vice President of Personnel; Vice President of Finance; Vice President of Marketing; and Vice President of Design and Marketing Options.

17. Submit a final written report to the Board of Directors covering the materials contained in #2, #3, #4 and #5.

Position: VICE PRESIDENT OF PRODUCTION (one person elected for each lab)

Duties: The Vice President of Production is directly responsible for the direction of production planning and the manufacturing of the product at the most economical cost consistent with the established specifications as to quality and quantity within the framework of the company policies and procedures.

1. The Vice President of Production is directly responsible to the President.

2. Directly responsible for the supervision and coordination of: Design Engineers; Methods Engineers; Manufacturing Engineers; Materials Manager; Quality Control Supervisor; Safety Officer; Packaging Manager; and Plant Manager.

3. Assist the President with the daily operations of the company.

4. Meet weekly with the President and the Board of Directors.

5. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of production.

6. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical production components. This should include projected completion dates.

7. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with: Design Engineers; Methods Engineers; Manufacturing Engineers; Materials Manager; Quality Control Supervisor; Safety Officer; and Plant Manager.

8. Supervise the development of a full set of working drawings and submit six copies to the President by the second class after the product has been chosen.

9. Assist the President in the development of necessary policies and procedures for the daily operation of the company.

10. Assign production personnel to routing, flow process, work orders, quality control design, and fixture development.

11. Develop a method of assigning personnel to machines and/or work orders during pilot and final run.

12. Submit a weekly written report to the President covering the progress of production, including: working drawings; route sheets; fixtures; quality control; materials; and production.

13. Submit a final written report to the President covering the materials contained in 2 to 11 above.

Position: VICE PRESIDENT OF PERSONNEL (one person elected)

Duties: The Vice President of Personnel is responsible for employee relations, public relations, and labor relations.

1. The Vice President of Personnel is directly responsible to the President.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the President.

3. Develop policies and procedures related to attendance, check in, work hours, production hours, and overtime.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical production components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Develop and post an organizational structure of the company.

6. Maintain a complete set of personnel records for all employees.

7. Maintain a record of all work and production hours for each employee. A hard copy of this information will be turned in to the President as a supplement of the weekly report.

8. Maintain a complete listing of activities completed by each employee. This should follow the format of the Individual - Grade Report. A copy of all paperwork completed by each employee should also be collected. It is the responsibility of the employees to get you this information. This information should be checked for validity. A hard copy of this information will be turned in to the Board of Directors upon liquidation of the company.

9. Work with the Methods Engineer to assign personnel to work assignments on the production of the company’s products.

10. Work with the Plant Manager in the verification of completed tasks related to the production of the company’s products.

11. Work with the Vice President of Finance to complete pay vouchers for hours worked.

12. Submit a weekly written report to the President regarding the work and production hours of each employee.

13. Submit a final written report to the President covering the material covered in 2 to 11 above.

Position: VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE (one person elected)

Duties: The Vice President of Finance is in charge of all accounting activities, auditing and budgeting, collection and credits, and payments of all accounts.

1. The Vice President of Finance is directly responsible to the President.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the President.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of finance.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical financial components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Coordinate all aspects related to stocks for the company, including:

A. Develop a proposal related to the sales of stock and present it to the company personnel for consideration.

B. Develop and produce stock certificates.

C. Oversee the sale, transfer, and distribution of stocks.

D. Maintain records related to stocks.

E. Develop a stock holders report for the company and present it one week prior to the liquidation of the company.

6. Maintain a checking account for the company. Checks should require the signatures of a minimum of two officers.

7. Develop a method of recording all financial transactions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll (if applicable).

6. Record all financial transactions in 6. A hard copy of this report will be turned in to the President as a supplement of the weekly report.

6. Work with the President to approve all company expenditures and disbursements.

7. Work with the Materials Manager to approve the purchase of all materials.

8. Develop a break-even chart.

9. Submit a weekly written report to the President concerning the financial expenditures, income, previous balance, and new balance.

10. Submit a final written report to the President concerning all financial transactions as covered in 2 to 11.

Position: VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING (one person elected)

Duties: The Vice President of Marketing is in charge of sales, advertisement, packaging, instructional materials, and the distribution of the product.

1. The Vice President of Marketing is directly responsible to the President.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the President.

3. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Packaging Manager.

4. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of marketing.

5. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical marketing components (market plan). This should include projected completion dates.

6. Analyze and summarize the results of the market research taken during the R&D Phase.

7. Conduct a second, more thorough market survey.

8. Recommend product improvements to the Manufacturing Engineers. Improvements and changes should be based on the market survey.

9. Select and develop the most effective and economical media for advertising the product.

10. Prepare instructional materials to be included with the product.

11. Develop and produce sales materials including: order forms; receipts; and purchase agreements (for larger orders if appropriate).

12. Maintain a complete record of all sales and distribution.

13. Work with the President and Materials Manager to insure that the correct quantity of products are produced and sold.

14. Work with the Vice President of Finance to report and record all financial transactions.

15. Work with the Packaging Manager to insure that packaging design is appropriate and consistent with marketing plan.

16. Submit weekly written report to the President concerning the progress of marketing, sales and sales income.

17. Submit final written report to the President covering the materials listed in 2 to 14.

Position: SAFETY OFFICER (one person elected for each lab)

Duties: The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all personnel work safely and that all potential safety hazards are corrected before they result in a safety accident.

1. The Safety Officer is directly responsible to the Vice President of Production and has a direct line to the President.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Vice President of Production.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of safety.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical safety components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Develop a safety manual. This manual should include; general safety rules; machine specific safety rules; and operation specific safety rules.

6. Develop a machine safety checklist.

7. Develop a safety competency checklist. All company employees need to complete this prior to using any equipment.

8. Develop an accident report and establish a reporting procedure.

9. Develop and post appropriate safety signage.

10. Develop inspection procedures for all fixtures.

11. Develop training procedures for any operations or equipment/fixtures that have not been covered in TED 115.

12. All items in 3 to 11 should be posted and presented to the class as appropriate. This should be done in a timely manner.

13. Supervises the set-up and operation of all the equipment.

14. Insures that all machinery is used in a safe manner.

15. Supervise the performance of all the personnel operating the machinery.

16. Supervise all training of personnel.

17. Submit weekly report to the Vice President of Production concerning any safety related action, accidents or potential safety problems. Any accidents or potential safety problems should be brought to the attention of the Board of Directors (Instructor) immediately.

18. Submit final written report to the Vice President of Production covering the materials listed in 2 to 16.

Position: DESIGN ENGINEER (one person and assistants as needed based on complexity of product)

Duties: The Design Engineer is responsible for designing the product and planning the most efficient manufacturing system to make the product.

1. The Design Engineering department is directly responsible to the Vice President of Production.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Vice President of Production.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of product design.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical design components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Develop the product, and improve the product by:

A. Work with the Vice President of Marketing to analyze the market research data for product design recommendations.

B. Work with the Production Engineer to determine if the design of the product is compatible with production capabilities.

C. Work with the Materials Manager to determine if the design of the product is compatible with available materials.

D. Work with the Vice President of Finance to determine if the design of the product is feasible financially.

E. Work with the Packaging Manager to coordinate packaging design.

F. Work with the Quality Control Engineer to establish tolerances of all dimensions and features.

G. Correct weaknesses in the product design.

H. Follow established ANSI standards.

6. Develop a complete set of working drawings (CAD preferred) including:

A. Orthographic of each part or component.

B. Orthographic of the assembled product.

C. Pictorial of the assembled product.

D. Bill of materials and cost analysis.

E. Assembly drawing (optional).

F. Orthographic of each fixture and inspection gauge including cost and bill of materials.

7. Submit the drawings to the Vice President of Production at the beginning of the second class after the product has been chosen.

7. Continue to develop and update drawings during the production of the product. Any revisions must be announced to the entire company and old drawings should be destroyed.

8. Develop orthographic or pictorial drawings (select one) of all fixtures and quality control devices.

9. Develop drawings of packaging devices if appropriate.

10. Submit a weekly written report to the Vice President of Production.

11. Submit a final written report to the Vice President of Production regarding the material contained in 2 to 10.

Position: METHODS ENGINEER (class personnel)

Duties: The Methods Engineer is responsible for the planning of sequences and processes needed to make parts and assemble the finished product.

1. The Methods Engineer is directly responsible to the Vice President of Production.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Vice President of Production.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of production methods.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical production method components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Develop the operation process charts to identify the number of tools, machines, and people needed to produce the product.

6. Develop the flow process charts listing all the processes needed to make each part in the production.

7. Develop the operation sheets detailing the work to be done at each work station.

8. Conduct time and motion studies to calculate the standard time for each operation.

9. Submit a weekly written report to the Vice President of Production.

10. Submit a final written report to the Vice President of Production regarding the material contained in 2 to 8.

Position: MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (class personnel)

Duties: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for planning the layout of tools, machines, and people on the production line.

1. The Manufacturing Engineer is directly responsible to the Vice President of Production.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Vice President of Production.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of manufacturing processes.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical manufacturing process components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Work with the Plant Manager to design the materials flow chart (plant layout) for the arrangement of tools, machines, and other work stations throughout the plant for a smooth, uninterrupted flow of materials.

6. Develop materials handling procedures to move materials, supplies, and work in progress through the plant.

7. Oversee the design and production, and acquisition of necessary tooling and fixtures to make production parts of consistent size, shape, and quality. To accomplish this, the following should be done:

A. Develop a fixture list with descriptions.

B. Develop a fixture assignment/progress sheet.

C. Develop fixture drawings

D. Work with the Quality Control Manager to insure the fixture will perform to quality standards.

E. Work with the Safety Officer to insure the fixture meets safety standards.

F. Inspect and try all fixtures upon completion.

G. Recommend revisions as needed.

8. Train all personnel in the operation of the machines, use of the fixtures, and gauges.

8. Submit a weekly written report to the Vice President of Production.

9. Submit a final written report to the Vice President of Production regarding the material contained in 2 to 8.

Position: MATERIALS MANAGER (one person for each lab)

Duties: The Materials Manager is responsible for purchasing, reviewing, inventorying, and distributing all materials required for the operation of the company.

1. The Materials Manager is directly responsible to the Vice President of Production.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Vice President of Production.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of material selection, purchasing and inventory.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical material components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Work with the Design Engineer team to develop a bill of materials.

6. Develop purchase request forms.

7. Oversee the distribution and use of purchase requests. No materials may be ordered without an approved purchase request.

8. Develop a form for preliminary cost estimates.

9. Conduct or oversee preliminary cost estimates for all materials. This must be done prior to any materials being purchased.

10. Develop purchase order forms.

11. Complete and record all necessary purchase orders. Approval must be received from the Vice President of Finance and the Vice President of Production prior to orders being filled.

12. Purchase or authorize the purchase of materials and supplies only when an authorized purchase order is completed.

13. Develop receiving report forms.

14. Inspect all materials upon delivery. Compare quantity and quality with purchase order specifications and record information on receiving report forms.

15. Maintain a complete record of all purchases.

16. Develop and implement a storage inventory procedure, including record keeping forms.

17. Compile a supply data sheet once all purchases are complete.

18. Develop a material cost per unit produced.

19. Work with the Vice President of Finance to develop a break even chart.

20. Submit a weekly written report to the Vice President of Production concerning all purchases and materials received.

21. Submit final written report to the Vice President of Production concerning the material covered in 2 to 19.

Position: QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER (one person for each lab)

Duties: The Quality Control Manager is responsible for maintaining a quality product from the development stage through final assembly of the product.

1. The Quality Control Manager is directly responsible to the Vice President of Production.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Vice President of Production.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of product quality.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical quality components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Work with the Design Engineer to establish feasible and practical tolerances to be maintained for all parts.

6. Work with the Materials Manager to develop material quality specifications.

7. Determine the critical points in the production sequence where inspections should take place.

8. Determine where parts will be inspected and if random or 100% inspection is necessary.

9. Develop all inspection gauges for production including working drawings for each gauge.

10. Develop quality control record sheets and keep accurate records regarding rejects, reworks and usable parts during the production stage.

11. Develop operation sheets for all inspection points.

12. Make out work orders for all inspection points and supervision of points during production.

13. Develop and post quality control signage for all quality control inspection points.

14. Submit a weekly written report to the Vice President of Production concerning all purchases and materials received.

15. Submit a final written report to the Vice President of Production covering the material contained in 2 to 13.

Position: PLANT MANAGER (one person for each lab)

Duties: The Plant Manager is directly responsible for the plan, organize, direct, and control all activities associated with the plant.

1. Directly responsible to the Vice President of Production.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the Vice President of Production.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of plant operation.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical plant operation components. This should include projected completion dates.

5. Work with Manufacturing Engineer to develop a materials flow chart (plant layout). Plant Manager is responsible.

6. Work with the Materials Manager in the procurement of materials and supplies for all phases of the production process.

7. Supervise the set-up of the plant according to the materials flow chart.

8. Supervise the operation of all equipment in the plant.

9. Work with the Safety Officer to insure safe working conditions for all employees and guests.

10. Supervise the training and performance of all personnel working in the plant to insure they are working safely and efficiently.

11. Work with the Quality Control Manager to determine critical points in the production sequence to determine where inspections should take place.

12. Work with the Packaging Manager to incorporate the packaging process into the plant layout.

13. Develop and implement a system for reporting facility or equipment related problems that occur or could occur.

14. Develop and implement a systematic and routine maintenance program.

15. Submit weekly written reports to the Vice President of Production concerning the progress made in all aspects of the plant's operation.

16. Submit final written report to the Vice President of Production concerning the material covered in 2 to 14.

Position: PACKAGING MANAGER (one person)

Duties: The Packaging Manager is directly responsible for designing and creating a sufficient packaging idea for the product, using sketches, brainstorming, and mock-up of the final product.

1. The Packaging Manager is directly responsible to Vice President of Marketing.

1. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with Vice President of Production.

2. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with Vice President of Marketing.

3. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of packaging.

4. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical packaging components. This should include projected completion dates.

2. Develop and test possible package designs.

3. Work with the Design Engineers and Materials Manager in the analysis and selection of packaging design options.

4. Make a formal presentation to the company displaying the best design options and have them vote on the design they feel is most appropriate.

5. Work with the Design Engineers to produce working drawings of all packaging components.

6. Work with the Methods Engineers to include packaging operations on the operation process chart.

7. Work with the Methods Engineers to develop flow process charts identifying all the processes needed to make each component of the product packaging. Packaging Manager is responsible for turning these sheets in.

8. Work with the Methods Engineers in the development of operation sheets detailing the work performed for each operation on the flow process charts related to packaging. The Packaging Manager is responsible for these sheets.

9. Work with the Quality Control Manager in developing specification for the selection of materials and criteria for the level of quality during production.

10. Research packaging supply companies, critically examining price and quality and availability/delivery time.

11. Work with the Materials Manager in the timely procurement of packaging related materials.

12. Prepare instructional and informational materials to be included with the product, including all of the following:

A. Packaging graphics (information about the class and University are required).

B. Informational inserts (information about the purpose/function o the class, the Technology Education program, University, class personnel).

C. Product information (care, use, safety, disclaimers).

D. Appreciation/thank you (expressing gratitude for those who gave assistance, donations, etc.).

17. Submit a weekly report to the Vice President of Marketing concerning the progress of the package development.

18. Submit a final written report to the Vice President of Marketing concerning the material covered in 2 to 16.

Position: VICE PRESIDENT OF DESIGN & MARKETING OPTIONS (one person)

Duties: Directly responsible for the generation of alternative design and marketing options within the corporation that may serve to open additional avenues for product sales. The Vice President of Design and Marketing Options will:

1. Be directly responsible to the President.

1. Meet weekly (or more frequently if needed) with the President.

2. Develop Policies and Procedures related to overriding aspects of design and marketing options.

3. Develop an operational analysis identifying critical design and marketing option components. This should include projected completion dates.

2. Work independently in the gathering of information.

3. Do research and market surveys to develop a basis for redesign.

4. Work with the Vice President of Production in the production related analysis of the design(s) you identified.

5. Develop innovative ideas for redesigning the company’s product.

6. Develop new packaging designs to accommodate these new designs.

7. Work with the Packaging Manager to consider the alternative packaging designs you developed.

8. Develop and suggest new and different marketing strategies.

9. Work with the Vice President of Marketing to research (market surveys) and analyze the potential markets you identified.

10. Assist the President in development of presentation portfolios of new design ideas.

11. Make a minimum of one formal presentation to the company related to design, packaging and marketing options you developed.

12. Submit weekly reports to the President concerning all progress and problems related to design and marketing options.

13. Submit a final written report to the President concerning the material covered in 2 to 14.
