The Spanish 1 course is intended to be the first year of study of Spanish for non-native students. Students will be introduced to different aspects of the cultures of Hispanic countries. The class is designed to attain an acceptable level of proficiency in four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students must cooperate by completing homework and classwork, assignments, participating in oral reviews and games, and studying the text and notes. The course is aligned to the State Foreign Language Standards.

Grading scales/categories

The student will obtain a grade based on the following categories:

Scale: Categories:

90%-100%= A - 10% Active participation in class.

80%-89%= B - 20% Homework and classwork.

70%-79%= C - 40% TESTS, QUIZZES

60%-69%= D - 20% Projects

59%-0%= Fail - 10% DICTADOS

Textbook “Realidades 1”, photocopies, and a Spanish notebook.

student´s responsibilities.

- Every assignment must be turned in on time and COMPLETE in order to receive full credit. No half credit will be issue. NO EXTRA CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN.

- An absence due to an illness is the only legitimate excuse for late work. After an absence, the student will have 2 EXTRA DAYS to turn in the homework missed during his/her absence. IT IS THE STUDENT´S RESPONSIBILITY to find out what the homework was, and turn it in.

- HOMEWORK, when assigned, will ALWAYS BE POSTED on our website (Staff directory: Ana Fernández) as well as written down on the student´s agenda.

HOW PARENTS CAN HELP.

- Check the student´s agenda to find out WHAT´S DUE or the website for news and homework.

-Keep productive talks about what they learn in class daily.

-Check your child´s grade online at lms. (Schoology gradebook) No need to wait for the official report card. Officials grade report card are issued and mailed every 5 weeks.

- Attend the back-to-school night and student-led conferences if possible.

-Update your emergency contact information in the attendance office.

-Textbooks must be returned in the condition in which they were issued.

SCHOOL POLICIES: All school policies regarding student attendance and behavior apply to this class. Students are expected to behave in a manner conducive to learning. Students are required to adhere to the school dress code. Students found cheating on tests or assignments will be subject to the school’s cheating policy. Students are expected to be in class daily and on time. Students are expected to bring necessary learning materials (notebooks, pens, paper, etc.), and any assigned textbooks to class each day.
