Significant Figure Rules

#1 All non-zero’s are significant.

#2 All zero’s between non-zero’s are significant.

#3 All zero’s before the first non-zero are NOT significant.

#4 All zero’s after the first non-zero in a number with a decimal point are significant.

#5 All zero’s after the last non-zero in a number without a decimal point are NOT significant.

#6 All numbers before the x10^x are significant in scientific notation. The x10^x is NOT significant.

Measurement Rule: Read all instruments to one and ONLY ONE estimate. Significant figures are either measured OR show correct precision for mathematical processes.
