MISSION

Florida State Alternative Breaks facilitates service immersion experiences for students to serve with and in a diverse community, learn about social issues, and develop as leaders and active citizens.

Housed in the Center for Leadership and Social Change, Florida State Alternative Breaks is an Associate Member of Break Away, a national nonprofit organization, whose mission is to train, assist, and connect campuses and communities in promoting

quality alternative break programs that inspire lifelong active citizenship. As an Associate Member, our program is guided by the Eight Components of a Quality Alternative Break. WHAT WE DO: Facilitate weeklong service immersion experiences over breaks. Our service addresses various social issues both domestically and internationally.

Your Role as a Site Leader

As a Site Leader, you will have the opportunity to: Develop as a leader as you facilitate a service-immersion experience Serve alongside a community through an agency partnership Plan and facilitate pre-trip education surrounding your social issue Collaborate with a co-Site Leader and team of participants

Responsibilities of a Site Leader: Participate in the Site Leader Retreat (fall semester 2016) Participate in the FSAB Kick-Off (January 2017) Participate in weekly or biweekly Site Leader meetings (September-March) Co-facilitate pre-trip meetings with alternative break trip participants (January-March) Remain in regular contact with agency partner and housing site via email, phone, and/or video conference platform Uphold the Eight Components of a Quality Alternative Break Facilitate issue education, orientation, and training among trip participants Manage money during the trip (this includes receiving a cash advance and using the money to pay for meals, gas, and other expenses while on the trip)
