Continuing Professional Development in Occupational Testing

The Occupational testing training centre is developed and established by the University of York. The University of York has an excellent reputation in conducting Continuing Professional Development courses across the University.

The British Psychological Society (BPS) Level A and Level B Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing (CCOP) aims to provide delegates with the opportunity to gain an understanding in personality theories and assessments for use in recruitment, staff development, training and counselling.

The BPS qualification also means delegates can apply to be included on the National Register of Competence in Psychological Testing and will be able to purchase psychometric test materials.

Continuing Professional Development in Occupational Testing

Level A course

A three-day training course is available at the University of York to gain the Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing, pending verification from the British Psychological Society (BPS).

This course aims to provide delegates with the opportunity to gain an understanding in personality theories and assessments for use in recruitment, staff development, training and counselling.

Learning objectives:

• To competently administer ability, aptitude and personality tests

• To interpret and analyse psychometric statistics

• To provide feedback to clients results with clarity

The course covers foundational knowledge of psychometrics and practical skills training delegates in using and analysing psychological tests

Level B

builds on Level A and instructs on how to use, administer and interpret personality questionnaires to standard BPS procedure to assist in recruitment and training (link title ‘level B’ to 2nd paragraph on page 3)

Training will be given on the testing of the following instruments:

• Fifteen Factor Questionnaire (15 FQ+)

- measures fifteen of the core personality factors

- measures criterion such as Emotional Intelligence, Team Role and Management and subordinate styles

• Jung Type Indicator (JTI)

- Explores core psychological processes of perceiving and judging

- Tests two alternative ways of perceiving information, sensing and intuiting, and two ways of judging information, thinking and feeling.

• Occupational Personality Profile (OPP)

- Measures nine core traits relevant to occupational assessment

- used for addressing strengths and weaknesses in promotion, career development and training

• Sixteen Personality Factor Five (16 PF5)

- measures sixteen personality factors such as warmth, reasoning and privateness

- uses a bi-polar scale
