GENERAL INFO

the Anime Detour Chairman

It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to Anime Detour 2019!

Each year, we are tremendously excited to come together for another year as we celebrate this strong and generous community with our friends and families.

In the past year, we have continued to grow into our new home here at the Hyatt. We have made a few adjustments to our layout and there have been some exciting renovations!

Our staff have been working all year to bring you some new and exciting events and we truly hope you enjoy all we have to offer this year.

Our theme this year is Refuse to Lose! We're celebrating the fighting spirit! So many of the manga and anime we enjoy reflect that indomitable strength that comes from within, but so do each and everyone one of you!

I truly believe that conventions and our community not only enrich our lives, but have the power to save lives as well. When you are here at Anime Detour, you belong. You are our guests and are the heart and soul of Anime Detour. Please know that none of this is possible without all of you and we thank you.

This year, let's Refuse to Lose that sense of excitement as the halls echo with laughter. Let's Refuse to Lose the enjoyment of the company of old friends as well as making new ones!

For as quickly as this world of wonder and excitement seems to appear, our time in it is but brief. But the memories we make will last a lifetime.

Whether this be your first time, whether you have been with us from the start, and any and all points in between, I want to thank you for

joining us this year. And please remember...

Always Take the Detour!

Troy MacDonald Chairman of Anime Detour

the Anime Twin Cities President

The thrill of victory. The agony of defeat. So goes the popular conception of competition, symbolized by the theme for Anime Detour 2019, "Refuse to Lose".

I have a different interpretation, however. Rather than facing a physical opponent with a binary outcome, this year's theme for me speaks to the constant drive for improvement. In the context of this weekend, it's about how we strive to put on a better convention for our members this year than the year before, so that you can claim this year's Detour is your best Detour (at least until next year).

This attitude extends beyond the convention, in the context of the parent organization Anime Twin Cities. We are always looking for new and improved ways to enrich our community with fun activities during the rest of the year, and we are always open to supporting other organizations with the same goal. Because when our efforts result in something that you and others with geeky interests can remember with warmth and fondness -- like watching an anime movie, or adding to your collection at a swap meet, or ice skating in your cosplay -- everyone is a winner.

You can find out more about Anime Twin Cities by visiting our website, or, even better, by engaging us in person this weekend at our room party in Room 5118, or at our panel Saturday at 1:30 PM in Greenway A. We look forward to meeting you!
