Audience:

Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants licensed in Tennessee.

Course Descriptions:

Jurisprudence – The Legal Basis of Physical Therapy Practice - This course covers legal issues in physical therapy and the Tennessee Practice Act and Rules Governing the Practicing of Physical Therapy.

Ethics in Physical Therapy Practice – Principles of ethical decision-making, the APTA Code of Ethics, and the Standards of Ethical Conduct for the Physical Therapist Assistant are covered in this course.

Course Objectives:

Jurisprudence – The Legal Basis of Physical Therapy Practice:

• Describe the purpose of the Practice Act and Rules

• Recognize the types of disciplinary action that may be taken against a licensee

• Describe offenses that may lead to disciplinary action

• Explain the rules of supervision for PTAs and other personnel

• Describe the Practice Act and Rules related to the definition & scope of practice, disclosures, & administrative requirements

• Recognize that there are legal issues and obligations in addition to the Practice Act and Rules that affect physical therapy practice

Ethics in Physical Therapy Practice:

• Recognize the difference between personal and professional values

• Define common bioethical terminology

• Use the Code of Ethics and Guides to Conduct as tools for decision making

• Demonstrate through case analysis the ability to identify ethical conflicts and support a resolution to an ethical dilemma

Speaker:

Jane David, PT, DPT, MS:

Jane David is the former Chairman of the Jackson District of TPTA. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the TPTA as Secretary. Jane is the PTA Program Director for Jackson State Community College. She also does clinical practice at Work Plus Rehab Center in Jackson, Tennessee. Jane is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the University of Memphis, and Murray State University.

*NOTE: Courses will occur in the NURSING BUILDING RM. 203 rather than the Ayers Auditorium as in the past.

Directions: From I-40 take Exit 85, go south on F.E. Wright Drive, at the red light at the intersection of Parkway and F.E. Wright turn left, turn at the second right into JSCC Campus (just past the digital sign). Parking is available immediately on the left. Nursing Building is immediately on the left as well.

Registration Policy:

• Registrations – The prices listed on the registration form are good for registrations postmarked one week prior (October 27, 2017) to the course.

• Registration forms postmarked or faxed after this date must add $25 to the registration amount due.

• On-site registrants must pay $25 more than the prices quoted in the early bird registration.

• Cancellations will be accepted until November 1, 2017. No refunds will be given after this date.

Course Certificates will be distributed at the end of each course. If you do not pick up your certificate at the end of the course, you will not receive full credit for the course without proof of completing the course.

The Courses are 2 hours in length. You must attend the entire 2 hours to receive the course certificate.

If you register on-site, you must complete a form at the registration desk. A Course Certificate will be mailed to you by the TPTA office. Blank certificates will NOT be available at the course registration desk.
