Nancy Watches

Key Word: War

Key Verse: Beware that no one leads you astray. Mark 13:5b

Nancy had been listening in church and in her Sunday school class when they talked about the end of the world. It made her feel a little bit afraid. She heard God's words about being aware and being alert. She heard that there would be changes in the sky, the sun, the moon, and the stars and that she was supposed to watch for these changes.

Nancy did not talk to her dad or her mom about this. She had decided she would keep watching and when everything began to change, then she would tell everyone that the end of the world was near.

Nancy kept a diary of all of these changes. She soon began to realize that the sun and the moon and the stars had patterns in their movements and their changes.

One fall afternoon it was really sunny and hot outside. By suppertime the sky looked greenish and the clouds were very different. Now, the moon and the stars were hidden by the fastmoving clouds. Nancy was out on her porch writing everything down when it became very, very windy.

Nancy heard her parents calling her

to come inside. "Mom, Dad!" she yelled, "It's going to be the end of the world! Everything is changing just like the Bible says!"

Nancy's parents showed her the news on the television. It was not the end of the world, but they were under a tornado warning and needed to get to a safe place until the storm passed by. As they waited in the basement, Nancy's parents talked to her about being a trained spotter for the weather service and about the meaning of Jesus' warning that the end of the world was coming. Nancy began to realize how much she had learned and she was not afraid of the end of the world anymore.

The storm passed. Nancy kept observing, but she wasn't afraid anymore. She knew God was taking care of her.
