Design Concept & Process:

This was a little experiment in appliqueing a delicate black applique over a pieced background. The background fabrics were hand painted with fiber reactive dyes and pieced in a wavy pattern. The tree and border were cut out as one piece and fused to the pieced background. The edges were finished with a very narrow black zigzag stitch. The quilting added more branches to the tree and carried some of the colors out into the border. The binding was made from hand painted fabric.
