Term 2, 2019

Toddlers Room Email: toddlers@.au They say time flies when you are having fun and this is most definitely true of the first half of 2019 in the Toddler's Room. As reflected on in the term 1 newsletter we had a terrific start to the year and have continued into term 2. Children have reached and excelled past

many age appropriate milestones and have challenged the thinking and planning of educators. It is with this in mind that we strive to provide and maintain an enriched

curriculum which both challenged and excites the learning for children. When reading through our end of year summaries, which all primary carers write for children and their families, it is with a sense of pride that I note the relationships, bonds and awareness of children that has developed to a deeper level this term. Individuality has formed a curriculum based on each child's needs, interests and capabilities. I urge families to take the time to read our weekly reflective pieces which are written by different educators each week. Also taking a look through our programming book you are able to see many of the wonderful learning opportunities which we have resourced and supported for

children over the past term. Beginning in term 2 May, saw a definite change in children within their confidence and competency. Offering some valued consistency with educators and structure with routine children were able to anticipate the customary changes within the room. Routines became expected and children soon revealed their eagerness to assist with transition times such as collecting the boom box and ipad for group music time, packing up the table and setting it ready for lunch and making their to the bathroom to pack their bags ready for home time. This showed the confidence children had in their environment and in their educators. We celebrated Mother's Day with some absolutely delightful photos of your "little rays of sunshine." We all know how hard it is to stage a photo with a toddler, most of the children

were happy to role play with the outcome providing a lasting memory. As these changes in confidence were taking place we also began to see children becoming

more inquisitive and their thirst for the answer to "why?" soon was being asked. We presented a series of science related experiments and activities which supported by educators most children were intrigued by. Children began transferring their new understanding and knowledge to different situations this then led to sharing their ideas became more frequent and the need for companionship started to form. In term two we have been absolutely delighted to see friendships being formed and a real awareness from

children that the world is bigger than just themselves.

In June we celebrated the Winter Solstice which saw a gathering of our families and community. Always a wonderful night to share it was great to see that over the past 4 years

we have gathered more families with each passing year. Often it is hard to bundle little ones up and head out into a Winters Night we hope that those who did come enjoyed

themselves and will come again next year. As we finish the first half of the year we begin to see what new questions we can prepare for children to ask this term. We consolidate our findings and set new goals for children and

anticipate change to come quickly and with many expanding avenues of possibility.

Visual Diary Our visual diary is located just inside the main entrance to the toddler's room to the right. Above is a folder containing the weekly reflection write ups. Families are encouraged to look through our programming and planning book and leave feedback with educators. By visually providing a log book of the program all families and educators are able to see the trends and themes that occur within the room. It also assists educators in reflecting and preplanning for children to ensure the learning space is enriching the development for all

children. What's next? In term 3 we are looking at supporting and expanding children's understanding and respect

of one another and those in our community. And also developing their language and communications skills to support their emotional development and wellbeing.

What's in the bag?

Children's art work is regularly placed into the bags by educators, please check to see what wonderful creations your little Picasso's have done.

Please ensure a full change of clothes is placed in your child's bag. Even though we limit water play over the winter months clothes can become soiled from spills, art etc and need to be changed.

Families who are not providing a wet bag are asked to please place a plastic shopping bag in their child's bag to place soiled clothes into. Families can purchase a wet bag for $5 from the front office.

Feedback?

We have through group discussions and formal meetings set up a new process for feedback in regards to out Geelong Children's Centre Quality Improvement Plan. Families may be asked to select a question (from a series of questions) and complete them for our feedback. It is great appreciated if families could fill these out as it assists us in being the very best we can be.
