"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me." Matthew 25:35

Did you know that the South Dakota Synod has seven mission start congregations? A mission start congregation? Mission starts are an expression of the body of Christ born in places that long to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and are able to reach people missed by established congregations. One mission start in Sioux Falls is Church on the Street. This ministry walks alongside the homeless community. Church on the Street listens to, prays with, build relationships, and provides a space of welcome where God's Word is proclaimed and communion is shared. After the gathered are fed with Jesus promise of forgiveness and new life, a meal is shared and bellies are filled with sustenance. As followers of Jesus, we believe that all are created in God's image. All who are created in God's image deserve to be treated with dignity and honor. Church on the Street lives this out.

On Saturday, June 9th, Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer has an opportunity to partner with Church on the Street. All are invited to worship with Church on the Street and then help serve a meal. This will be a wonderful opportunity of service and relationship among God's beloved. I hope that you and your family will be able to join us!

In Christ,

Pastor Dan

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under Heaven, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. ?Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Some of you may already know, I have accepted a Special Education Teaching position with the Willow Lake School District and will be starting this coming 2018-2019 School Year. I will be on Staff through July 15th, 2018. This means I will be here through our NeSoDak Day Camp we are hosting! So, I wanted to take a second to say THANK YOU! I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to be a part of the LCOOR family. I have truly loved every moment of my job. I am blessed for the time I shared with each and every one of you, each of the church school students, parents, and teachers. This has been an amazing place to be! I am so appreciative.

We are looking forward to being closer to our roots, more time with family, raising our kids up in the Willow Lake School District, and being a part of a community that has been such a positive part of our lives.

Thank you for all of your support and care the last five years! As I prepare for the next step of my journey, I am reminded that there is a reason to each season we pass through and a time and place for every purpose under Heaven. I am thankful for each seed planted to continually grow my faith on this life journey! (Eccl. 3:1-2)

Continued Blessings,

Angela Terhark

Possibly the last thing most of you are thinking about in June and July is, "How can I help with Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer's Winter Wonderland display?" However, we are looking to form a group to take on this festive task! If you'd be interested in helping plan an outdoor lighted display for Winter Wonderland (held between Thanksgiving and Christmas at City Park) please let Twila or Jodi in the church office know.

Prayer Shawl Group says "Thanks"

The Prayer Shawl group at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer has been blessed during the past year with several monetary gifts, and the group wishes to thank everyone who keeps them in their thoughts and prayers.

While they do not keep track of how many prayer shawls are completed, the funds always seem to be available to make more. Memorials, Thrivent Grants, WELCA donations, the LCOOR Endowment Fund and many individual donations have been received. The monetary gifts often come with heart-felt "thank you" notes. One note included the following: "We could just feel the thoughtful prayers coming out of the shawl."

BeFrienders Are Available to Listen

Have you (or someone you know) gone through some major life changes? Do you have a great deal on your mind? Just need somebody to listen? Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer has a wonderful group of trained BeFrienders who are here to help!

BeFrienders (volunteer lay ministers) provide pastoral care to people in difficult and transitional stages, such as illness, loneliness or loss of a loved one. They embody the caring presence of God and of the community.

BeFrienders are trained to provide a listening presence to others. They accept people as they are ? without telling them how they should be. They listen with compassion, without giving advice and provide spiritual and emotional care.

If you (or someone you know) would like to visit with a BeFriender, please contact Twila Schmitt, Welcoming & Caring Coordinator, at the church office (605-8862696).

Mark Your Calendars: God's Work Our Hands is September 16

It might seem like quite a long way until September, but we're already gathering project ideas for this year's "God's Work. Our Hands" set for Sunday, September 16.

Page 4

Do you know someone who could benefit from painting, weeding, yard cleaning or window washing? Maybe there are other project needs that members of our congregation could help with on September 16? Keep your eyes and ears open ? we look forward to hearing from you! If you have ideas, please contact Lynn Langer (chucklynnlangner@), Paige Sullivan (psullivan@wat.) -- or leave a message with Twila in the church office!

THANK YOU

To the members and staff at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer . . . a word of thanks for allowing me to serve as Visitation Pastor for the past two years. And to those I had the privilege of spending some time with each month, sharing conversation, prayer and Holy Communion, thank you for letting me into your homes and into your lives. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for always welcoming me with kindness. You have been a blessing to me.

Faithful Generation Dinner Held May 5

What a fantastic evening! Our Faithful Generations event included nearly 100 special guests for a celebration of years of faithful service on Saturday, May 5. Following the 5:30 p.m. worship service, the Great Hall was alive with laughter and conversation during a special dinner! Thanks to our amazing high school youth, the diners were served at their tables. So many words of appreciation were expressed that night for their "service with a smile."

Our thanks to the church school kids and LCOOR Preschool students who made such pretty placemats. (Thanks also to two special artists Addison & Avery Kruse who made a few more the day of the event!) Our thanks to Roger & Linda Austad for the colorful flower basket centerpieces and to Debby Peterson who not only donated use of the tablecloths, but also wrote a Thrivent grant to help cover costs of the meal. Thanks to Bill & Cathy Zubke for providing the delightful salad and home-baked bread. Thanks to Nancy Iverson & Carna Kruse for fixing amazing corn. Thanks to Candy Johnson for preparing the luscious dessert.

Thanks to all members of the Fellowship Committee for planning and serving at the event. Some arrived early to set up, stayed to tear down and ran the dishwasher! Based on the number of phone calls and verbal and written thank you notes, we'll call the evening a huge success ? and plan to host another in the coming year.
