A

Dictionary

Copy the new vocabulary in the second section of your spiral.

1. Start a fresh page in the second section your spiral. Head that page with the name of the current vocabulary. Ex.: Classroom Objects

2. Copy all the vocabulary from that section into your spiral. If you run out of room on that page, start a new page and Head it the same way.

3. Ask for help. Use cups to let teacher know what you need.

4. Do not put more than one section of vocabulary on each page.

Flashcard Practice in Class

Practice flashcards with a partner or on your own using the correct steps for both

Have the English Go through your cards and sort them into 3 piles.

1. A - you know right away

B - you don’t know right away, you have to think about it (5-15 seconds)

2. C – you don’t know and have to look on the other side of the card.

3. Pick up the B and C piles and go through them again.

4. Keep doing this until they all go in the A pile.

5. When they are in the A pile, turn them over so the Target language side is facing up. Go through the same procedure as above.

6. Pick up the B and C piles and go through them again.

7. Keep doing this until they all go in the A pile.

8. Shuffle your cards each time you use them. If you always review your cards in the same order, you can start to remember words just from the order.

HOW TO PLAY:

1. Play with a partner.

2. Shake the can and dump the hearts onto the floor or table. There are nationality and country hearts.

3. This player has to find the countries and nationalities hearts matches of the hearts that landed face up with the country or nationality nationality showing. To get the match s/he has to read the sentences on each of the two matching hearts in French / Spanish.

4. Put the unused hearts back in the container and shake up again for player 2.

5. Play until there are no more hearts left.

Game

HOW TO PLAY:

1. Decide who goes first, second and third by rolling 1 die each.

2. The first player throws 3 dice. Add up the numbers on the dice and start by finding that number on your game board. Example: You roll a 4, 3 and a 3. It equals 10. Starting with your card, tell what the word in box number 10 is in English.

3. If you miss, your turn ends.

4. If you get it correct, put one of your chips on it, and you can go to the next player’s card (in the same order as established above) and tell what the word in his box 10 is in your language or English. If you miss your turn ends. If you get it correct, put one of your chips on it, and you can go to the third player’s card, and tell what the word in box 10 is. If you miss, your turn ends. If you get it correct, put one of your chips on it, and then you turn ends.

5. If the number is already covered by someone else’s chip, you go on to the next card. If all the boxes with that number are covered, you lose a turn.

6. The winner is the person who has the most chips on all three game boards all together.

4. The other person says a word in French / Spanish that appears on his, and the partner has to say the word in the English. If it is correct, he/she adds that amount to his/her score. If it is not correct, he/she subtracts that amount. Put one of the other chips on that box, and remove the yellow chip.

HOW TO PLAY:

1. Shuffle cards.

Colors Spoons Game

Read the directions and play the game accordingly.

EQUIPMENT:

1 set of cards - shuffle these

2 or 3 spoons (1 less than # of people playing)

HOW TO PLAY:

8. Shuffle cards.

9. Deal cards: deal 4 cards to each player.

10. Place the remaining cards face down next to the person starting the game.

11. Put the correct number of spoons ( you should have one less than the number of players in your group. Ex. - 4 players = 3 spoons.) in the middle of the group.

12. Decide who goes first.

13. First person starts game by picking up a card from the pile of remaining cards and decides to keep it and pass an old card or pass that card to the next player.

14. No player can have more than the original number of cards in his/her hand.

15. Play continues like this until someone gets 1 match (4 players) or 2 matches (3 players). (language words and picture equivalents.) Do not tell anyone that you do. Grab a spoon. Everyone else has to grab a spoon. Whoever does not is out of the game.

16. Start a new round by shuffling the cards, dealing them and putting 1 less spoon in the middle of your group. The people who grabbed spoons the last round are still in the game. Keep going until there is only 1 spoon.

17. The winner is the person still left in the group who grabs the last spoon.

18. Make sure you understand all the rules and vocabulary.

19. Use cups to let teacher know if you need help.
