IMPORTANT! As I mentioned in last months' article it is now hurricane season.

To clarify Steve's article last month I want to remind everyone that our buildings are not storm shelters. No one should be entering the clubhouse or laundry room during a storm. Arrangements need to be made ahead of time so that you know your evacuation plan. The clubhouse and laundry room will be locked so it makes sense to do your homework now to locate your closest shelter.

Keep your eyes open each month for a new section in our newsletter. Our Comcast representative will be inserting a "Comcast Tip of the Month". Useful tips and tricks that could be of use to you. She is also having a "Table Day" each month. She will be set up in our clubhouse for an hour to answer any questions that you may have. Keep your eye on our in house channel 196 for dates and times. Also, Brenda Radford from Comcast will be at the clubhouse on July 20, 2017 from 10 to 11:30 am. They will be demonstratig the many uses of MY ACCOUNT APP. Everyone using Comcast in the park should plan to attend.

Our "Home of the Month" award for June went to 28 Orange Blossom Street. They have received their $50 gift card! Make sure that you take a ride by this home. Good luck to next month's winner!

Until next month!

FROM THE PRESIDENT

There is a sign up sheet in the clubhouse for the July 4th luncheon. It will be at noon. Please sign up if you plan to attend.

There was a 2017 Hurricane Guide recently in the Herald Tribune. You can go to heraldtribune. com/hurricanes to read it. There was a lot of information about preparing for hurricanes. Also there was a list of evacuation shelters. You can get official information by calling 941-861-5000 or go to . Look for emergency services at the bottom of the page and click on CODE RED.

I have been asked by several to put this information in the newsletter.

Solutions Not a Sales Pitch

I have worn hearing aids for a number of years, on and o . I say on and o because it has been o more with my most recent pair purchased from another provider in Venice. I had an annoying problem with feedback, which neither they nor another local provider were able to correct or alleviate. Both told me I should consider newer, more advanced models, which they would be happy to sell me. Since mine were similar, I felt they were more interested in making a sale than helping me. As a result, they wound up in my dresser drawer (not an uncommon situation.) I decided to give it one more go. A friend referred me to Blair Post at Contemporary Hearing.

What they said couldn't be done, was done by Blair. No sales pitch on newer models; just a willingness to listen to and work with me. A er testing my hearing, he patiently worked with me to make adjustments to the programming. He also re tted the aids with new leads and cones. e ones I had were not sized or tted properly and caused much of the feedback. I was given a follow up appointment the next week at which time Blair ne tuned the programming and changed out one of the cones for another size. ese were simple, inexpensive solutions to a xable problem. Although I was advised of charges ahead of time, no payment was collected until I was satis ed.

Although I found Blair to have an abundance of knowledge, patience and humor, his greatest attribute is INTEGRITY. He honestly wants to help. I would recommend Blair Post and Contemporary Hearing to any person desiring to improve their hearing.

GHOST TOWN?

by Steve Rollison

One afternoon last week I pulled into the park and drove straight up Bay Lake Boulevard, following the curve onto Carissa Street alongside the lake. Suddenly I had to slam on my brakes and blink twice just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, but sure enough there was a huge tumbleweed, easily four feet across, blowing right across the street like a beach ball caught in a mid-afternoon storm sweeping in from the Gulf.

It seemed to just be begging for somebody to take a picture and put it on a postcard with the words, "Welcome to Bay Lake ? Ghost Town of the Florida Suncoast."

As I turned left onto Gardenia I noted that there was only one person besides myself to be seen in the entire park. I don't know her name, but I'm sure you would recognize this lady. I would say she's probably in her sixties or seventies. Gray hair. I think she might wear glasses.

Bay Lake Estates certainly appears to have begun its annual summertime transformation into a ghost town.

Anyway... there's one thing about ghost towns ? they tend to attract the attention of people with time on their hands who are looking for something to do. At Bay Lake "something to do" could be as innocent as fishing in a little lake they're not allowed to fish in, or as nefarious as breaking into unoccupied homes with the intent of burglary or vandalism. Innocent or nefarious, those involved could be either juveniles or adults.

If you happen to be one of the Bay Lake year 'rounders, please make an effort to keep your
