ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ ? The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarkerTM Western European HRB price for August 28th was down 1.9% (on a Euro basis, it was down 1.2%) to $528 per tonne for the second consecutive time. The United States HRB price was down 1.5% to $644 per tonne after increasing in the prior two reports. The World Export HRB price was down 0.8% to $502 per tonne for the second consecutive time. The Chinese HRB price was down 0.7% to $446 per tonne for the third consecutive time. In its three hundred twenty-first report, the SteelBenchmarkerTM released 10 steel products and 3 USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot-rolled band August 28, 2019: USA ?$644 per metric tonne ($584 per net ton), FOB the mill ? down $10 from $654 ($593 nt) two weeks ago, up $232 from the recent low of $412 ($374 nt) on Dec. 14, 2015 and up $215 from the low of $429 per tonne ($390 nt) on May 25, 2009. It is down $362 per tonne from the recent high of $1,006 ($912 nt) on Jul. 11, 2018 and down $559 (46.5%) from the record peak of $1,203 per tonne ($1,091 nt) on July 28, 2008. China ? $446 per metric tonne, ex-works ? down $3 from $449 two weeks ago, up $215 per tonne from the recent low of $231 on Dec. 14, 2015 and up $39 per tonne from the low of $407 per tonne on Oct. 12, 2009. It is down $191 per tonne from the recent high of $637 on Aug. 22, 2011 and down $287 (39.2%) from the record peak of $733 per tonne on July 14, 2008. Western Europe - $528 (476) per metric tonne, ex-works ? down $10 (down 6) from $538 (476) two weeks ago, up $182 (up 151) from the recent low of $346 (325) on Nov. 23, 2015 and down $43 (up 95) from the low of $571 (381) per tonne on Nov. 23, 2009. It is down $324 (129) per tonne from the recent high of $852 (605) on Mar. 28, 2011 and down $676 (56.1%) (280) (37.0%) from the record peak of $1,204 (756) per tonne on July 14, 2008. World Export Price ? $502 per metric tonne, FOB the port of export ? down $4 from $506 two weeks ago, up $230 per tonne from the recent low of $272 on Feb. 8, 2016 and up $6 from the low of $496 per tonne on Nov. 9, 2009. It is down $271 per tonne from the recent high of $773 on Feb 14, 2011 and down $611 (54.9%) from the record peak of $1,113 per tonne on July 28, 2008.
