Metric fine thread dimensions
US & Metric Thread Standard Chart | Carr Lane
– ISO metric screw threads are specified by its nominal size (basic major diameter) and pitch, both expressed in millimeters. Include a (M) to denote that the thread is an ISO metric screw thread. Place the unit of measure (“M” for metric) before the major diameter. Use “X” to …

Most thread sizes are available in UNC or UC (Unified Coarse Thread, example 1/4"-20) or UNF or UF (Unified Fine Thread, example 1/4"-28). A Unified Miniature screw thread series is defined in ANSI standard B1.10, for fasteners of 0.3 to 1.4 millimetres (0.0118 to 0.0551 inch) diameter.

UTS consists of Unified Coarse (UNC), Unified Fine (UNF), Unified Extra Fine (UNEF) and Unified Special (UNS). The International Organization for Standardization's ISO metric screw thread preferred series, based on round millimeter dimensions, is the standard that has been adopted world-wide and has displaced all former standards, including UTS.

The difference lies in how the thread pitch is measured. Metric bolts define their pitch by the distance between each thread. There are still fine and coarse threads but this time the bolt dimension may be 6mm x 40mm x 1.0 or 1.25 in the case of a fine thread.

All wheel mounting bolts and nuts should be fine thread grade 8 or metric grade 10.9 and be installed with lock washers. All other bolted assemblies should use lock washers or a self-locking type nut. Use of a removable thread locking fluid is recommended. [Please refer to the bolt head grade chart on page 4]

The screw thread is specified by giving its nominal (major) diameter, number of threads per inch, class of fit, and external (A) or internal (B). If the thread is to be left-hand, include the letters LH after the class symbol. The size of the thread may be given on the drawing by using either fractional-inch sizes or decimal-inch sizes.

Jan 13, 2005 · Standard screw threads consist of the Unified inch series and the Metric series. Unified inch series, dominant in the US, are based on the major (outermost) diameter and the number of threads per inch. The three standard series are designated UNC (coarse), UNF (fine), and UNEF (extra fine). Typical specifications are. 1/4-20 UNC or 1/2-20 UNF,
