      Demonstration: use a small (1/4 watt) and a larger (10 watt) resistor, both having a resistance of 10 ohms. The current through each resistor will be the same. Note the variation in heat given off by the two resistors. If a resistor operates at an elevated temperature, it can change its resistance value and even burn out to create an open circuit.
